Tip & How-To about Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 DVD Player

Cyberhome CH dvd-300

Power supply problems. There are many reports on this site for problems related to the cyberhome dvd player, one of them mine. Here is what I found. The dvd drive was ok it was the power supply that failed after a power surge. The power supply is a flyback power supply using the viper22 switcher by STM Microelectronics. you can download the specs with a schematic diagram simular to the one in the cyberhome unit. I wound up replacing the shunt regulator (TL431) Optical coupler (PS2561-a-1) , the 2200uf cap and the 1000 uf cap. this brought the 5 volt output to 5 volts which was the problem. The parts can be ordered from Mouser Electronics.
1000uf @ 10 volts PN UHE1A102MPD
2200uf @ 25 volts PN UFW1E222MHD
TL431 PN 512-431CLP
PS2561 PN 551-PS2561-1-A

Warning: The high voltage side of this power supply has 120 VAC and 161 volts dc when energized. thak precautions when measuring the voltages on the output. Good luck

I unplugged it and now it wont turn on after I plugged it back in to the wall outlet

The exact same thing happened to mine several days ago. I opened mine up, noted that two of the capacitors on the power supply are a bit puffed up, and tested the power supply's 12V and 5V outputs. The 12 Volt output is fine, but the 5 Volt output is only putting out 2 Volts. In short, all of the capacitors on the power supply are made by the same company (Jenpo) and apparently these capacitors were made using the stolen but incomplete formula for manufacturing capacitors much more cheaply. That "capacitor scandal" has cost electronics manufacturers millions. In any event, this would explain why Walmart blew out these Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 players for such a cheap price. Obviously all of the capacitors on the power supply will eventually fail. I have already experienced similar capacitor related problems with a few computer motherboards and other electronics equipment which I bought in the early to mid 2000's. I am contacting Cyberhome to see if they will send me a replacement power supply to go in my CH-DVD 300.

Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 DVD - YELLOW light indicator of what problem?

Marlin P Jones & Assoc. Inc.. has a 5V 2.2A /12V 1.5A cord power supply that will fit into the space where the original power supply was! Lists for $6.95 but online price was $2.95. Works great! Connect 12V supply to the yellow lead and the 5V to the red lead of the output connector, black is ground, common to both supplies. Use QC terminals to the power cord input terminals, remove the cable clamp and the power supply will nestle beautifully in the space without need for support. (Remove the old circuit board plastic (3) and rear brass standoffs and use the front brass standoff for the output cable shield ground connection. (Part No. is 15955-PS) I bought two because I have a 2nd Cyberhome CD-DVD 300 which hasn't crapped out yet.

Not sure, but I believe the 2.75 volts you have should be 5.0 volts.
May want to check capacitors on power supply.
The output connector on the supply may also be labeled with
the correct volatges for reference. COnstant orange light may be
indicating the +5v is low.

Sounds like your power supply. I had the same issue with mine. I researched this model and found out that the power supply was made with, how shall I say this delicately, less than sturdy components. Plus the unit does not have adequete cooling inside. There is a site that repairs the power supplies for a decent price. I was very impressed with the service and site instructions. Check them out.
