Tip & How-To about Kitchen Appliances - Others

Awkwardly situated screws

I find a bit of Blu-Tack or similar - (chewing gum works fine) placed into the slot or X of a screw (especially brass ones where a magnetic screw driver won't work) or sometimes stuck onto the end of the screwdriver, helps when re-assembling anything where it isn't possible to hold or guide the screw by other means. Furthermore if it doesn't come away with the screwdriver it's there for next time and no real loss.

i have lost me credit card between the windscreen and dash. Can this be retreived?

Try fishing around on the location where the card is with a thin flexible rod or wire that has a piece or sticky chewing gum or something similar on the end. Be careful that your tool cannot scratch the magnetic strip on the card.

One of the keys on my acer 5315 have fallen of does any one know how to resemble it again

The key should just clip back onto the board.

If not, there usually is some sort of rubber where the key was. Use a bit of double-sided sticky tape, or better: Blu-Tack (just a little) removable adhesive, and place in/on the rubber on the keyboard. Place the key in place and push down firmly.

If that doesn't resolve it, consider buying a new keyboard (about $20 and must be from same EXACT model) and put in place.

Hope this helps.

gum problem

Had a similar problem once with my Sega Nomad, gum had gotten lodged in the cartridge slot. I solved that problem by taking a metal crochet needle, popping it into the freezer for a bit, and then applying the needle to the gum (gently!) causing the gum to become stiff as it cooled. It was VERY important that the needle did NOT physically contact the metal contact pins within the cartridge slot, just the gum itself. As the gum cooled, it became possible to gently push it away from the contacts, and eventually hook the gum by its center of mass up and out of the slot. This took PATIENCE on my part, perhaps this can be applied to your situation?
