This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F02” error code.
“F02” is a Long Drain error.
If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed.
In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be generated as a secondary error.
This is an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line.
You will need to check the following:
- Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
- Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
- Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

Just finished up the instructions you have posted. Thank you very much for saving me the time and money for a service call. Very easy to do and I found a "rotten sock" in the filter. Now the mildew odor is gone and machine does not have the SUDS problem like before.

THANK YOU !!!!! and thanks to my 15 yr mechanically inclined son...he did do what the instructions said but we couldn't get 00 so we did the drain/spin option. tub didn't drain. so we started from step one to clean out pump basket & then we attached the wet/dry vac to the discharge hose and you could feel some kind obstruction release...I'm pretty sure the obstruction was the rubber backing from area rugs that after awhile dries out & gets brittle and when wet.....falls apart in the washer & can plug everything up.
so advice to all you people out there.....when an area rugs rubber backing becomes dried out...its cheaper to replace the rug then have to replace parts on a washer.
Its great knowing that this website is here & experts like jsrock516 is willing to share his knowledge to help other people out...
Thanx JSROCK516 !!!!

JS you Rock !
I'm the guy that would have taken the drain plug off and had a gallon of water on his hardwood floors.
So after removing the water, I took the plug off and found a nickel, penny, and a pen cap that must have been stuck in the impeller of the pump. The cast iron rod for the impeller snapped. I'm assuming from the pen cap getting stuck.
So I'm off to get a new pump. Thanks for saving me the call to the Repair man.
You Rock!
