Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to reset Mozilla Firefox Settings/Preferences to Default.

As we all know, when the Mozilla Firefox is installed, another version called "Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)" is installed. But mostfirefox users don't know it's importance and would consider it to run in SafeMode. This feature is also used to Change the Firefox settings/preferences.
If you've messed up with the security settings, add-ons,etc..etc.. we have to reset all the settings from the Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). To do this, follow the steps below:

For windows xp
Click "Start"then "Run" and type in "firefox -safe-mode"[Note: one space after "firefox"] and press enter. A new window willopen up (shown below)

You can select whatever you want to restore, but if you onlyneed to reset the changes you've made to the "Preferences", then simply select (check mark) the "Reset all user preferences to Firefoxdefaults" and click "MakeChanges and Restart". Once you click the "Make Changes and Restart", firefox will restart.

If your operating system isn't Windows XP, then the commandsare as follows:

Windows Vista andWindows 7
Click "Start"then "Start Search" and type in "firefox.exe -safe-mode" (one spaceafter firefox.exe).

Mac OS
Open, "Application"and "Utilities" then "Terminal" andtype in "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-safe-mode" and press enter"

Linux
Open "Terminal"then type in "/path/to/firefox/firefox-safe-mode"

Thank you for your time, Your comments will be highly appreciated.

Good luck.

firefox is crashing

Firefox crashes can be caused by incompatible extensions or themes, issues with hardware acceleration and the drivers on your system, problems with your Firefox settings and other issues. If Mozilla Firefox is crashing every time you reopen it, you can troubleshoot Firefox with its safe mode, update the software on your system or create a new Firefox profile.

Safe Mode b> Mozilla Firefox includes a safe mode startup option. Firefox doesn't use extensions, themes, hardware acceleration or your custom settings when you start in safe mode. You can start Firefox in safe mode by pressing and holding the "Shift" key while clicking the "Firefox" shortcut. Click "Continue in Safe Mode" when the dialogue box appears. If Firefox doesn't crash when you start in safe mode, the problem is with your Firefox configuration. b> Reset Firefox b> If Firefox starts without crashing in safe mode, you can make some of the safe mode changes permanent. Close Firefox and restart it in safe mode again. Use the dialogue box that appears to select one of the options such as "Disable All Add-ons" or "Reset All User Preferences to Firefox Defaults" and click "Make Changes and Restart" to restart Firefox in normal mode with the changes. After restarting, you can re-enable extensions and themes one by one and install updated extensions that may fix the problem. Update b> If Firefox crashes safe mode, updating Firefox and other software on the system may fix the problem. You can download and install a new version of Firefox from Mozilla.com if it won't start. You should also update Windows from Windows Update, update any browser plug-ins such as Adobe Flash and update for your antivirus, firewall and other security programs. The crash may be fixed with newer versions of the software. b> Profiles b> Firefox stores your settings in a profile directory. It normally creates only one profile directory, but you can create an additional profile and start Firefox with that profile instead of using safe mode. Close Firefox if it's open, click "Start," type "Firefox.exe -ProfileManager" into the search box in the Start menu and press "Enter" to access the profile manager window. Click "Create Profile" to create a new profile, provide a name for the new profile and click "Start Firefox." Firefox opens with a fresh profile; you can start your old profile from the profile manager window.

can't click on like anymore or give comments on facebook. I have deleted all my cookies in my browsers already. Put my computer on and off several times.

This might be happened if you are using old version of the browsers like Internet Explorer 6. I suggest that you download and install the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox from below link.

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

If you are already using Mozilla Firefox, then please close all the opened Mozilla Firefox window then click on Start>All programs>Mozilla Firefox>Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). Now select Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults then to apply your changes, click Make Changes and Restart.

If the issue still persists, uninstall the existing Mozilla Firefox and re-install it by downloading from the above link.

i installed mozilla firefox for a few weeks already, it worked but today it does not even open, i tried to reinstall but its thesame, i checked with the task manager but it even is not running, i tried to reboot and re-install but still thesame, any solution?

1. Try opening the Firefox in the Safe Mode from Start -> All Programs-> Mozilla Firefox -> Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) and check.

2. If it opening in Safe Mode, then uninstall any conflicts Add-ons and try.

3. Uninstall the Firefox from the Computer, delete all the Folders of the Firefox from the "Programs Files" and "Documents and Settings" (in XP) or "Users" (in Vista or Windows 7) including the Profile and extension Folder of the Firefox.

4. Restart the Computer and then install the Firefox again.

This should resolve the issue.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
