Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Converting file types

You've spent lots of time downloading files, but many of them are in formats you can't play. The solution is simple. Go to www.mediaconverter.org or www.erightsoft.com and they'll change your music and video files into something more usable

If my friend sends me a video (She is an iPhone user) to my HTC Incredible, the videos download, but they then say that they cannot be played.

Unfortunately, there is no way to view the files, but there is a way around the problem. Save the video to your phone. Now download Media Converter from the playstore; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AndroidA.MediaConverter
Also, download any codecs it requires after starting the app. Now find the file and select the format you would like (I choose .avi), click convert and you're done. Converted videos are stored in storage/sdcard0.

Actually I tried to add the files again to the recorder s folder but it shows empty when I try to play them with the recorder....Im sorry but Im a little desesperated. I hope you can help me. Thank you very much.

If you still have the files saved on your computer, then you have several options.

You can convert them to something more compatible like MP3 online for free at the following site:

http://www.mediaconverter.org/

Just upload your file to the site and choose the applicable formats for conversion and then a short time later you can download them back to your machine in whatever format you chose.

Or, you can just download VLC MEDIA PLAYER for free from WWW.CNET.COM and install it on your computer. It should have no problem playing that type of file. You can read about the program, check out other user's reviews and download it free if you want at the following direct link to the CNET free download page:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html?tag=main;productListing

Just click on the big DOWNLOAD NOW (19.42 MB) button on the left hand side of the page when you get there, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Good luck, hope this helps.

To know about file formats support by Adobe Media Player, open this link.

You can have a research in Google Website about the various types of songs, audio clips or just simple as a sound file. And to know what program or software that support that file type.

In windows media player (all windows operating system has a Windows Media Player built in) basically can played standard audio and video formats like shown here:

http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00418.htm

And here are some glossary of file formats and how they differ from each other.

For example you want to play a mp4 video file to your computer. First you should a video codec that will support the mp4 video file, like this one:

http://www.mediacodec.org/WECPSetup.exe

Copy this url to your browser to download this file.
Then proceed to installation.

1. Double click the download file
2. Click Next twice
3. Click Install
4. Allow to run update
5. Then Finish

Then you'll see the mp4 file will be played in Media Player
