There seem to be a lot of people who have had 'problems' with their Wii remotes not working when all they needed to do was reconnect them. Here is a quick guide on how to do this:
When you have turned
your wii on press the red sync button next to the SD card slot then
press the red sync button on remote(s) under the battery cover. It/they
should then be connected. You can then change which one is no.1 or
2 etc. by pressing the home button and going into remote connection and clicking on reconnect. Then press A on your Wii remotes on the order in which you want then (1 first, 2 second etc)
Hope this helps anyone who is having 'problems'.

If you have a wii fit board you may want to take it out and tap the button a couple of times. I don't know what it does but it is the only thing that I tried that brought the hand back. Re syncing may have been helpful but not fully until the wii fit board activation.
