Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

How to keep your fridge clean

Everytime you are waiting for the kettle to boil or waiting for something to warm up in the microwave, even if it is only 1 or 2 minutes, use this time to open your fridge and wipe the bits of the shelf that you can see with a damp cloth or piece of kitchen towel. Just one shelf. Just one minute.

At the end of the week, notice how clean your fridge is looking and wipe down the inside of the fridge door too.

I bought the Russell Hobbs Whisper Kettle expecting it to boil quietly. Wrong. It is quite the opposite. Not sure if I can take it back due to "false advertising"??

Have you tried descaling the kettle? When scale builds up over the whisper quiet element, it reduces the effectiveness, and the kettle becomes noisy. Try 1 tablespoon of citric acid, fill the kettle to the max line, boil the kettle then leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

How do I clean this device:

its easy to clean an electric kettle. please follow the instructions,

  • use a damp cloth to clean the exterior part but remember the cloth should not be dripping and it should not be on the exterior while the kettle is switched on since there are possibilities for electric shock.
  • for cleaning the interior part just fill the kettle with water up to half level of it. switch it on and wait until the water boils for at least two minutes. All the dirt and remaining powder parts will be dissolved in the boiling water and you can pour it out.
thank you. have a nice day

water kettle does not boil water

I had the exact same problem. The kettle would warm water but not boil. I bet you have hard water - try putting 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water mix and turning it on. I did this, fixed the problem!

sediment in my electric tea kettle

it is very hard to get rid off ass the sediment comes from the tap water untill you boil the water you dont see this sediment and take it for granted that the water is clean but as soon as you put it in a electric kettle this sediment builds up on the element then it brakes off and floats around in the kettle most new kettles have a filter near the spout so when you pour the water out it traps it in the filter then this can be removed and cleaned but the sediment floating in the kettle is hard to get out you can clean the element and descale it and then just keep pouring water in and out of kettle till its all out but it will soon build up again there are two ways to stop sediment one is filter all the water before putting in kettle but this can be slow process so not worth doing or the best sollution is buy a kettle that has a filter by the spout of the kettle and clean this regularly hope this is some help to you............................................

new kettle breville

There's several home remedies you can try: Try 50% "White Vinegar", 50% Hot Water or 2 Denture tablets in warm water over night or Baking soda in warm water. These remove the alkaline, minerals, and nitrates that build up on the surface. There is even a commercial product you can use to clean it. I can't recall the name but look in any supermarket, you should be able to locate it.
