Tip & How-To about Mozilla Firefox

The only Mozilla Firefox XPI Add-ons you will ever need

I have been surfing the web for year now and off all the Browsers that are available I am totally committed to using Firefox over all the rest, mainly due to the great number of add-ons that enhance your experience.

Here are the ones that you can't do without and what they do, I could add links to just about all of them on there different merits however these work with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox all you need to do it click on the hyperlink below and allow the installation into Firefox.

Do be careful some Add-ons can cause your browser to freeze and you might need to start in safe mode and enable each one by one to find the culprit, to my knowledge all of this lot are 100% trouble free.

Adblock plus - The base Advert add-on for blocking spam and adverts when used with Element Hiding Helper and the standard free subscription lists I use EasyList + Dr. Von Evil plus you can block and keep a track of which those annoying ads, you can also setup custom lists for sites like Facebook check out my tip HERE for help on how to do this
Add-on Collector - from Mozilla built a way for you to categorize, mix, match and mingle all your add-ons in one slick spot built into your browser
Better Privacy - Better Privacy serves to protect against not deletable longterm cookies, a new generation of 'Super-Cookie', which silently conquered the internet. This new cookie generation offers unlimited user tracking to industry and market research. Concerning privacy Flash- and DOM Storage objects are most critical.
Bit.ly preview - Easy keep track of all your bit.ly shortened links you will need an account and to insert your API key to the add-on for full functionality
Delicious bookmarks - Quickly TAG all those websites that you don't want to loose you will need a delicious account from Yahoo
Download Statusbar - Keep better track of all your downloaded files also have the ability to link it to your installed Anti-Virual scanner, however I do prefer InternetDownloadManagerthis will also add its own IDM CC XPI it does cost $30 but well worth the money for its extra functions and increased speeds.
External IP - This extension display your current external IP address in the browsers statusbar, this is the IP address that has been given to you by your ISP
Exit Button for Firefox -
FastestFox - Save time by speeding up repetitive tasks. Get faster, parallelized downloads, see definitions, auto-load the next page, improve searching, and more
FasterFox - A throwback from v2.0.0.4 to super speed your Firefox modified by almost everybody check out my TIP for more info they are all experiemental XPI's I have included the one that has been downloaded the most
FlashBlock - Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.
McAfee SiteAdvisor - This exe file will add the latest version of the SiteAdvisor that will integrate into your Firefox to indicate which websites McAfee Labs have tested for Malicious code and the rating they have given it, if you go to a website and allow yourself access you might open the flood gates to a world of hurt!
Mr. Tech Toolkit - The base Toolkit add-on for extra functionality and ease to install XPI's themes + much more.
Quick Java - Taskbar toggles for JavaScript, Java, Flash, Silverlight, Images and CSS, probably the most useful add-on I know, for preventing cart blance potentially malicious Scripts and ActiveX.
SkipScreen - Ever downloaded files from popular filesharing sites and had to wait for upto 5 mins to download your file then use this nifty little add-on check out my tip HERE on how to best use it
Show IP - Show the IP address of the current page in the status bar. It also allows querying custom services by IP and hostname like whois, netcraft, it also rolls over and shows your Local IP given by your Router within your own LAN
Stealther - If there are times you want to surf the web without leaving a trace in your local computer, then this is the right extension for you. What it does is temporarily disable the following:
SQL Optimizer - The display of the web page and the operation of Firefox might become slow while using it a long period because of the expansion of the database though the bookmark and the history this Optimizer tries to speed-up Firefox by optimizing these databases.
TabMix Plus - It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager, check out my TIP for more info
TrackMeNot - Protects users against search data profiling by issuing randomized queries to popular search-engines. Please visit http://mrl.nyu.edu/~dhowe/TrackMeNot for a detailed description.
Update Notifier -Notifies you when updates are available for your extensions and themes. Allows quick access to your extensions and themes and the ability to check both types for any updates
Vacuum Places Improved - Defragments your Firefox "Places" database (history/bookmarks) This greatly reduces the lag while typing in the address bar and the start-up time.
WOT - Safer Browsing - The WOT add-on is a safe surfing tool for your browser. Traffic-light rating symbols show which websites you can trust when you search, shop and surf on the Web and when used with HostMan from www.abelhadigital.com which actually block known bad websites from MVPS, HP and Peter Lowes Ad Servers you can be sure not to venture where your PC might not recover checkout my HostMan Appreciation Group@ Facebook for other sources of HOST files that you can add to improve security.
Yes Script - A JavaScript blacklist database that you can add known sites that may run malicious JavaScript, this is the smaller cousin of NoScript that has all the bells and whistles and takes alot of manual settings takes a long time to train it correctly it can however block all JavaScripts like the Quick Java XPI.
There are hundreds more to choose from this is my SpideRaY BaSic @ addon collector

  • Install and Use a Different Web Browser: Don't use the built-in "Browser" app to browse the web. Instead, install a browser like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome from Google Play. Chrome only works on Android 4.0 and up, but Mozilla Firefox still works on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. These browsers include their own rendering engines, so they don't use the system's browser engine. They're also frequently updated via Google Play. You'll probably find these browsers faster than the built-in browser if you have an older device with older built-in browser code, anyway!
  • Avoid Browsing With Embedded Web Browsers: Just using a third-party browser won't fix everything, as you'll still be at risk if you use an embedded web browser in an app - these use the system's "WebView," which is vulnerable. Avoid browsing with embedded browsers if you have a vulnerable version of Android. Stick to a dedicated browser app like Firefox or Chrome.

So it's better to use those web browsers for you to be able to use Facebook.

hi, please tell me what i am doing wrong. i input the proxy details to my firefox / internet explorer 127.0.0.1 and 7212 after that no matter which level i choose, webpages are not accessible. do i really havve to enter every individual webpage as special ? so far i am completely umipressed with Ghost Surf application and contavt availability

Unfortunately the software doesn't work with many internet browsers and can be confusing to use.
Verdict / GhostSurf Platinum lets you surf via an encrypted proxy server so that the bad guys can't collect information about you and is no longer available.
If you want to stop interference why not use a secure browser combination.
Firefox and set your search engine to Startpage. It is a secure search engine and bocks your information from prying eyes PLUS it is free!

my laptop is running slow? when im in the internet my computer runs slow

Available RAM is very important for speeding up your laptop while surfing. Check your available RAM by:

  1. Starting the Task Manager (Right click on taskbar and select it)
  2. Select the Performance Tab
  3. Compare the Physical Memory vs Commit Charge numbers.

For example, my fast computer has 3600 megs of total physical memory compared to a commit charge of 1200 megs. Meanwhile, my older, slow computer has only 650 megs of total physical memory with a commit charge of 1400 megs. This means the slow computer is always making 'pretend' memory from hard drive space, and that is why it is so slow. This is most likely the case with your computer as well.

I hope that helps.
