Tip & How-To about Heating & Cooling

Low air flow from a/c vents

In the summertime when its hot out, a/c air flow from the vents can start to slow down. When this happens there is a simple thing that all owners can do. Most vehicles today have a cabin air filter inside the vehicle. Most of these filters are easy to get to and change. Then there are some that take a bit more work. A cabin air filter is like a engine filter and works the same way. The cabin air filter catches outside air and debris that gets into the vehicle before it can get to the a/c evaporator. When these filters get dirty they restrict the airflow from the vents. When your airflow is not as good as it used to be, remove the cabin air filter and test the flow again with the filter out. If it changes and blows better, that means the cabin air filter needs to be changed

The spa will not start - the pump is definitely connected to working power and the last time i tried it worked fine. However today when I push the on button nothing happens?

When you say nothing happens, I wonder if the unit is making any sound at all or do you mean there is no water flow? If there is no water flow in your hot tub or spa then it could be just a simple air lock. Often when you drain your hot tub or spa you have to prime the system afterwards, this includes the pump but may also include the suction lines. The suction lines can develop an airlock in the upper portions of the suction line. To remove an airlock you simply force water into the suction line or release the air in the line by opening a union. Hot Tub Repair 101 What is an E6 or Error 6 Code Mean

Additionally, you could need new hot tub filters. If the filters are dirty and water flow is restricted your power pak may shut itself down as well. This can be as simple as cleaning your filters or replacing them. Hot Tub Filters

Here are a few things to consider

  • release any air locks
  • clean filters
  • make sure there is no obstructions in the lines
  • check to make sure GFCI is operational
I hope this helps.

The hot air from the vents begins to cool down when the vehicle is stopped or slows down.

sounds like a possible plugged heater core, restricting the flow of coolant. those require a special tool to remove, quick disconnect, just remove both hose from the heater core and back flush the heater core with a garden hose, NOTICE DO NOT DO THIS WHILE HOT IT WILL BURN YOU, this can make a mess, flush it both ways untill it flows clean and with even pressure, then refill the coolant and road test the vehicle to see if is changed.

The dryer is not fully drying clothes

Here are a few basic trouble shooting things to try to get you started. Is this a gas or electric dryer? I will assume electric. Check to make sure the heating element is heating up. You can do this by taking off the vent hose on back, putting the dryer on a hot dry cycle and feel the air coming out. You should have a very strong flow and after just a few minutes you should have hot air. If the air flow is weak, you need to clean the vent and lint tray with a flexible brush to clear any lint and debris from the air path. If the dryer is not blowing hot air it could be a thermostat, the heating element itself or even a bad circut breaker only allowing half of the 220 volt electric to work.

If you have a strong air flow, and hot air the next step is to hook the dryer up to the vent again, go outside and find where the dryer vent exits the home. At the vent exit if you have flaps covering the exit they should blow out fully when the dryer is running, and if there is no vent cover the air flow should be just as strang as it was at the back of the unit. If it is a weak flow you will need to clean or replace the vent from the dryer to outside the home. The most common cause of slow dry or incomplete drying is restricted air flow or the heater not working. Please let me know if any of this helped or fixed the problem. If not we can look into more possible solutions.

when it gets hot it stop and then start again when cooled down

This problem is usually caused from restrictions in the vent hose and the unit getting to hot causing the limit control to shut down until it cools. Check your filter, your dryer vent line for obstructions and the outside for pieces of lint plugging it and slowing the air flow. I have found lint build up in the line, at the base of the dryer where the exhaust line connects, and in the exhaust mounted on the outside wall.
