Tip & How-To about RCA D52W20 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

General tips to repair LCD flat panel and Rear Projection TV's

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. You can also try plugging in the TV through the USB on its panel to a computer or USB charger, and it may work. However, this is only a temporary solution.

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utility bill.

4. A circuit board may crack about some of the larger components mounted on it. You can inspect the PCB's for fractures, and then repair them. It may also be poor soldering that has failed. I would be checking for these things first.

5. If you want to go in for a long term solution, you can easily replace the whole power board or just change the faulty capacitors. You will have to open the back panel and take a look. You can make out which are faulty, because their caps will be swollen on top. Here's a sample pic (not same model):

Check the specifications of the faulty capacitors, and get the replacements from your local electronics shop. If you are comfortable with this, you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to G-E-N-T-L-Y pull out the defunct capacitors. Once that is done, solder in the new capacitors carefully. If are unsure how to do this, try to get a friend who knows how to do this kinda stuff do it for you, or get a qualified technician. Warning: If you do not have a background in electronics repair, or are inexperienced, get a qualified technician to do it for you.

REMEMBER there are very dangerous voltages inside a TV that can KILL. Be sure to work SAFE when dealing with electricity. DISCONNECT THE POWER BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING.

my greentech tv was locked and dont know how to unlock it.so far only black screen appear with red key logo under the screen.

Hello

To unlock your RCA tv try the folloing. One amoung this method will surely unlock your TV. NB: Before trying each method be sure to switch OFF and switch ON your tv with its FRONT PANEL POWER CONTROL SWITCH.

Most RCA and GE TV sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The code reset is different depending on the model. Try each number until you find the one that works for you.

1. Hold down the MENU button on the remote and VOLUME DOWN button on the TV it's self at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked

2. Hold down the 0 (zero) button on the remote and the VOLUME DOWN button on the TV itself at the same time for at least 4 seconds. The set won't say so, but the lock will be unlocked

3. Hold down the MENU button on the front of the TV and the TV button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. 4- Hold down GO BACK button on the remote and MENU button on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 4 seconds.
Hold down EJECT button on the front of the TV set and the MENU button on the remote at the same time for at least 4 seconds. Depending on the model, one of the methods should unlock the V-chip. Now, if desired, you can change the settings on the V-chip by going to the MENU and going to PARENTAL CONTROLS, or on some sets, going to MENU and then going to TV SETUP, then to V-CHIP SET.

If this does not help do the following

[1] Hold dow n [0] on the remote control and volume [2] Hod down Menu button on the front panel of the TV and 'TV' button on the remote control at the same time for at least 5 seconds.
[3] Hold down "Go Back" on the remote control hanset and "Menu" on the front of the TV at the same time for at least 5 seconds.

My JVC LT-42X579 42 in. LCD TV is only 13 MONTHS old and it suddenly won't turn on anymore. The blue power light comes on -as usual- but after 3 seconds, it will start blinking and it will remain that way until you physically unplug it from the wall. What's the life span for these type of TVs? Is this an issue of brand name or what?

I contact JVC and was told to first make sure your cable box or whatever you use to normally watch TV is powered on and is ready to work
He told me to unplug TV for 10 seconds at least. Then he had me press and hold down the "MENU and VOLUME DOWN (-)" buttons, at the same time for about 10 seconds. Then after 10 seconds of holding the 2 buttons down, he had me continue to hold the 2 buttons and press and let go of the power button. In other words after 10 seconds of holding down the volume down (-) and menu buttons, add the third button (power) and immediately let go of all 3 buttons, at the same time.
It worked for me instantlynd hopefully it works for you!!!
