Tip & How-To about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

CAR ALARM is in VALET MODE.

This is one of the most commonly asked questions, in the car security technical support field. MOST car alarms require you to turn the ignition on, and press or hold the VALET button. This can usually be found under the driver side of the dash.

Security light on and will not start

possible ignition problem, after replacing an ignition lock cyl. and housing on a saturn i had to reprogram the alarm system which led me here. turn the key on for ten minuets and wait for the security light to go out and try to start it. if this doesn't work try the same thing 2 more times in a row which should reprogram the alarm. if it doesn't start after the third try you've got a deeper problem that you'll need a professional mechanic for.

Absolutely yes. There are three types of car alarms:
1. Standard/Active - where your alarm is in effective operation at time of theft.
2. Passive - whereby you have an alarm installed on your car, which at time of theft is not in effective operation
3. Immobiliser - whereby the key of your car must be used to start the ignition, otherwise it becomes immobilised

you can be sure that yours car alarm system is one of the above.

my battery died after recharging it the alarm buttom needs to be reset. I need to know where the reset buttom is

HI ! I haven' t researched your car for you just yet !

I thought Id quickly mention the common method for reprogramming your alarm & remote, If you still require assistance then just ask me and I will find more about your car :)

Common Methods for resetting/re-learning code

  • Factory Fitted Alarms/ Central Locking / remote comes on ignition key.

Insert ignition key , turn key to accessories / red , press & hold lock/unlock for a few secs.remove key, exit vehicle and try un/lock doors &/or alarm (Some models differ slightly & require engine on or manual use of door locks whilst resetting.

  • Aftermarket /Non-Factory / remote is separately operated
Most use a small back-up battery usually located within the loudspeaker/Alarm unit itself under the bonnet,
Remove this battery for a short period to reset the remote code

The access panel for the backup battery is never in an obvious place. look carefully :)
