IP DETAILS

well this question has 2 answers:
1) if you want to find out what is the ip that in on your PC if you are connected to a one of these (cable modem, DSL modem or router) then this is what you call a "local ip, or private IP" to check it you do this: you click Start/ run/ and you type CMD and press ENTER on the keyboard. then in the black window you type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) and you press ENTER again. here it should say, ip address (most likely it is going to start like 192.168.xxx.xxx , where xxx could be any set of numbers)

2) if you are talking about the IP address that your modem (cable or DSL) is pulling , that means that is your "public IP" and to find it out, (the wasiest way) you can go to a site like "whatismyip.com" and your public ip will be at the top of the page.

Note: in case of vista, to get the black window you click "start/(start search) and type CMD and enter"
the rest is the same.
