Tip & How-To about Cell Phones

Battery failure indications

Following are a few reasons that indicates a battery failure:

  • The usable time after recharging is shortened.
  • The battery becomes unusually warm during a recharge cycle.
  • The battery becomes unusually warm during phone use.
  • The battery case often is swollen. This is detectable by feeling and viewing the inside/phone-side of the battery case. Also, when the battery is placed inside/phone-side down on a flat, smooth surface, it will rock and will sustain a spin motion. The case of a healthy battery is flat and will not sustain a spin motion.
  • The battery develops a hard spot. This is detectable on the inside/phone-side surface of the battery by gently pinching about the surface between one's fingers.

The battery on my car went dead, now my car indicates the airbags need servicing.

Nothing unusual about that.Just another layer of safety . SRS as well as some others safety systems can not distinguish between electrical supply failure or a disconnected/damaged component of that system so default mode becomes the SRS/airbag warning light. You need to go to an authorised Chevy type dealership and have them plug in their relevant test equipment which will test the SRS and if ok it will cancel the warning light.....until the next time you get a flat battery or disconnect it for some reason! It can be a big pain for many crash repair shops. Good luck....Eddy

I have an canon a480 camera. I have the problem that even if I charge my 2500mah batteries, when I again turn on the camera I see the low battery sign flashing on the screen? (When I press some of the buttons randomly the camera becomes usable) Why does it happen?

Are the batteries old and been charged many times? Have they ever been allowed to sit around for a long time and completely discharge (which will shorten the life and prevent full recharge). Have you tried cleaning the contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol?

Do I need to plug in the battery for the Earthquake MiniCultivator over the winter? I've taken it out, but don't know the procedure for plugging it in. I'm guessing I need to take the battery inside, but I don't think that allows me to plug it in. If you don't plug it in, will it still be a usable battery in the spring?

Hello. I can assist you. You definitely do not want to plug it in all winter for three reasons. It could be a fire hazard, it will shorten the overall life of the battery and it will cost money. So. Don't worry about plugging it in but do keep it in the house where it will be a more moderate temperature. In the Spring, recharge it and cultivate away. Thanks for choosing Fixya! Regards, Joe
