Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Changing power supply caps

When replacing bulging power supply caps,I prefer to use higher quality low ESR caps rather than radio shack parts and always (when space permits) go up to the next higher voltage. The low ESR caps last longer because the don't heat up as much. They can be purchased at Mouser or other major parts suppliers. I have a surplus dealer nearby that has them.

My LG26CL2D power supply now make a squerling noise after I replaced 3 ea. bad cap. Any advice on this one.

Correct polarity and you use low ESR type not generic electrolytics from RADIO SHACK? Low ESR is a must for switching power supply. Also bad cap can look normal but can have high ESR.

Should also recheck your soldering work just in case.

Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.

The power on/off mechanism does not work (on box or remote) properly. Started with having to press button many times -- green light goes on 2 sec then goes back to red -- before the screen would come on. Now the green just flashes but screen never comes on.

U have all the tools and understanding basic electronic also can do soldering work?Take the tv aparts.Tv have power supply board problems issues. That the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.Check the power supply board carefully for dying components parts call capactors parts. These dying capacitors parts are alway bulges up or puffing up on to it tops, these capacitors must be replace like with the same micro ferid capacitors and votages higher 5 or 10 voltages for better heat resistance not to dying to soon again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

E176FPb REPLACED C703 AND C704 STILL FAILS DISPLAY AFTER 3 SECONDS POWER LIGHT REMAINS ON

You need to find out if you do have 12vdc and 5vdc for the inverter circuits and logic board, I usually repalce the caps in a set not just the bulging one since bad cap can look normal but has high ESR, you need to use low ESR type cap in switching power supply, generic Radio Shack will not work or last very long. I use Panasonic FM/FC series for all my repair works because it has low ESR, 105c and high ripple current and high rated life.
