valves stuck open

since they are stuck open well then all you can do is pour something into the oil like in old days . we used kerosene . or gas an let it set a few days then turn it over a few to break it all loose.
then drain it out of the oil an let set to get out fumes.
run some high detergent oil or cleaner when you have it running again.
some times we poured in some transmission fluid into the carb to burn . cleaning a sticky gooie engine is a tricky task.

carefull slow running if the oil is over filled with anything.
it takes time to break up gunk.
open each sparkplug hole an spray stuff up in it.

Go Cart. Starts and runs only on full choke. 4 cycle, gas. Open choke, and engine dies. Sat for over a year. New gas, throttle working, spark ok. Can't find any air leak; carb never off of engine.

Remove the carb, then the float bowl at the bottom of the carb then clean the carb with spray carb cleaner. Spray into each and every drill hole and jet you can find. Use goggles so you don't accidently get cleaner in your eyes. Please, rate my answer, thanks. Reset the air and throttle screws, one and one half turns outward from a lightly seated position. Please, rate my answer. Thanks.

engine continually has high idle, wont kick down. also the choke light comes on when not pressing on the gas and makes an anoying sound. but only when not pressing the gas. what could this be? other than that it runs just fine, car is in excellent shape.

try getting a can of carb cleaner . removing breather and spraying gunk out of the inside of carb to free moving parts that are sticking. and also try spraying the outside moving parts of carb with penetrating oil

someone put oil only in fuel tank. Best way to clean it out? Now won't run smoothly with new fuel

TRY TAKING OFF TANK AND FLUSHING WITH SIMPLE GREEN. CARB IS PROBABLY CLOGGED SO I DON'T KNOW IF CARB CLEANER CAN FLUSH OIL OUT. A REBUILD KIT IS ONLY 10-12 DOLLARS AND REALLY EASY. JUST DISSASSEMBLE CARB,PAY CLOSE ATTN AND BUY A CAN CARB CLEANER IN THE CAN AND FLUSH OUT EVERY HOLE IN CARB,WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND DON'T TURN MIXTURE SCREWS. KIT COMERS WITH NEW GASKETS,BUY A PRIMER BULB WHEN YOU GET TO SMALL ENGINE SHOP OR OR GOOD LAWN MOWER SUPPLY SHOP. YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE CARB THERE WITH YOU ALSO. I DID THREE ALREADY FOR BAD FUEL,REALLY EASY,JUST ATTN TO DETAIL. OH,REMOVED PLUG SPRAY OFF AND SCREUB OIL OFF AND GET A LIGHTER AND HEAT OFF GUNK OFF ELECTRODE. GOOD LUCK!

string trimmer only runs with choke on

If you have to run with the choke on, it's having problems pulling gas thru the carb.
Start making sure that you're using fresh gas/oil mix. Don't attempt to use last years leftover in the tank or a spare can. Bad news... won't fire well.
Second, pop the carb lines off the carb and flush with carb spray cleaner (use the nozzle tube that comes with the can).
Third, check for cracks, breaks, leaks in the supply and return hoses. Replace any damaged hoses.
Disconnect the carb from the engine and spray all jets, orifices with carb cleaner (I like the Berryman's B-12 spray) and reinstall.
Also, pull the filter out of the air filter and clean, reinstall.
While you're at it, pop the spark plug out and clean the tip with carb spray as well.
Finally pour in a fresh gas/oil mix...start as usual. should be alot better!
