Adjusting your power options on LAPTOP as it will help your laptop from heating up when not in use even if for short periods of time. You can set your hard drive and display to turn off after a set time period. Another option is to set the laptop to go into standby or hibernate mode.

How can I increase my laptop battery life?

To increase the battery operating timeline you can do a number of things. These usually include dimming the screen, adjusting the power setting to turn the screen off after 10 minutes and stop the hard drive from spinning when idle after a period of time too.

Results will vary from laptop to laptop and depends if the quoted 6 hours 30 minutes time frame is an actual recorded time of usage off ac or based on windows assumption and estimation.

Windows power management can only tell you the time in which battery power is maintainable for based on the consumption rate at the time. With this being said start up and playing games will utilise more power that say word processing after the initial startup has cooled down.

Some laptops can be operated without the battery however there are an increasing number of laptops these days being manufactured without this option. You can attempt to operate it without the battery and doing so will not damage the laptop in any way. If anything it will maintain the life expectancy of the battery.

toshiba satellite laptop won't wake up from hibernation even after holding power botton down?!

If pressing down and holding the restart/start button doesn't wake it up you might try Control + ALT + DELETE keys (together) - that will reboot it though. And if that won't work then you might have to pull the battery to reset it.

It seems that some laptops have a problem with vista and sleep mode, in particular, and sometimes hibernate too. You can try going under POWER OPTIONS under Control Panel and setting everything back to default, saving it, then resetting it again. Also it's best to avoid using sleep mode if possible to avoid problems.

If the problem developed after a recent install or updating you may need to go to an older store point to fix the problem. Personally, I just avoid using these settings as much as possible and use regular shut down and a screen saver for times when I need to step away from laptop for short periods of time.

screen blacks out

You obviosly have a broken or non soldered connection on your laptop. I've seen many times that chips are not soldered on the boards correctly and become loose when heated. A reputable repair tech should be able to repair this.
