Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Extra life for your remote/ hand held devices.

Most of the remote control faults are due to failure/ leakage of battery in the deivce. It is important that the cells taht you install must be checked in a time period so that you could find out before the electrolitics leak and damage them. for his keep a date tab on the reverse side as a reminder, replacing them maybe in a period of three months. however if you are keeping away many such due to low use, please try to take off the batteries and let them idle. If however you ahve encountered such an issue, immediately open the remote, use a good cleaner to wash off, dry the PCB using a good hair dryer , then assemly them after cleaning and oiling the contacts from rust accumulation.
You must do this remedial prevention for devices that hold a battery but kept without any use.
Hope this tip is usefull. Good day.

Check the remote control for its infra-red emission. Even new pieces might have the fault. You can check its infra-red emission, by a mobile phone having camera option. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, check this link.http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ If the remote control emits infra-red emission, and still TV do not respond to it, the fault will be due to a damaged infrared sensor inside TV. This part can be located just behind the infrared window at the front panel of the TV set. You have to open the TV, to access it and to replace with a new one. The part will look somewhat like these.

Hi My matsui tv 1409T remote died (due to battery leakage!) so I have got a signalex universal remote as a quick fix replacement. I have set the remote to switch the tv on/off, change channel and adjust the volume, I can't tune in the channels! All 100 channels are snowy! I've tried pressing all the buttons on the remote but there is no clear

1) Change the batteries by alkalines
2) Retight the springs contacts with plyer for better contacts.
3) clean the contacts with special spray contacts.
4) Downloa the code or proceed with your instruction manual.
5) If the problem persist, you must return you remote control and buy other from Radio Shack I am recommending.

God bless you

My apex digital converter's remote no longer works. Therefore I have no TV picture because the apex wants to be re-installed due to loss of electricity temporarily.

Remotes are pretty simple things to fix. a few problems, tests and fixes.
1) test remote closer to device - if it works then replace batteries.
2) If some buttons fail to work that used to work - disassemble and clean muck off board and rubber contact pad.
3) remote will not work at all at any distance - use camera on phone to see IR led operation when pushing buttons on remote - could be batteries, IR led failure or ceramic resonator failure - you need test equipment to faultfind.

The only parts that tend to fail on a remote are batteries, IR LED, Ceramic resonator, and dirty/wet board/rubber contact pads
