Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

WHY DOES OE BLOCK DOWNLOADING OF PICTURES AFTER SP2?

SP2 adds a new feature to OE's Security Options to block automatic downloads of images and external content in HTML mail. This is to foil spammers from using webcams to verify your email address. The block also helps those OE users who use dial-up connections to connect to the Internet from OE initiating a dial-up session when the user has hung up the modem. Prior to SP2, when a dial-up user opened a HTML email with embedded links to pictures or other content, OE would launch a dial-up connection in order to download the external content.
If OE has blocked images or other content that you wish to view, just click on the InfoBar at the top of the message body. If you wish to disable the block completely, and thus risk spammers verifying your email address click Tools| Options| Security and clear the check box for Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail.

can't get most of my attachments to appear

With the Web-based Yahoo! Mail service, you can attach to your email message a saved Web page or another document in HyperText Markup Language format.
When you attach an HTML file in this way, Yahoo! Mail won't display the HTML content of the attached file in the email message body.
To view the attachment, you must click the attachment tab above the email message.Yahoo! Mail and HTML
Yahoo! Mail is a Web-based service and it's fully compatible with the coding languages used to design and display Web content, including HTML and XML, Extensible Markup Language.
This means emails sent or received in Rich text or HTML format include clickable hyperlinks, graphics and other Web design elements.
However, Yahoo! handles emails with HTML attachments in a different way to email messages formatted with HTML.

About Yahoo! Mail Attachments
Like most email programs and online services, Yahoo! Mail offers an attachment feature for adding images, video clips, audio files and HTML document to email messages.
Some email programs display the content of the attached file in the email message body, but Yahoo! Mail doesn't provide this feature for any file attachment, whether it's an image, video clip or HTML document.

Viewing Yahoo! Mail Attachments When you attach an HTML document or another file to your Yahoo! Mail message, an "Attachments" button labeled with a "Paperclip" icon appears below the email address fields and above the email message body.
Clicking the "Attachments" button opens a pane containing a list of all files attached to the email. The email sender or recipient can open each attachment to view the files by clicking the file name.

Considerations

When sending a Yahoo! Mail with an attachment, always explain the content of the attachment in the main body of the email message.
A brief explanation will encourage the recipient to click and open the attachment to view the HTML document.
Bear in mind that many email services automatically block HTML attachments because of the security risk of opening HTML files, which can contain viruses, phishing scams or open Web pages with inappropriate content.
If you want to share a favorite Web page with a friend or contact, include a hyperlink to the Web page rather than a saved copy as an HTML attachment.

White cloudy screen-only when I access my mail. I have tried several of your solutions but nothing works. I can do anything else under the sun, but I want to send and receive email!

Mozilla Firefox has the ability to block content and images from web sites. If you're seeing a white screen when visiting Yahoo! Mail, or clicking the "Save to My Web" button or other toolbar buttons , you have either accidentally or intentionally blocked images and/or content from yahoo.com. Check your Mozilla Firefox and Extension options to make sure you haven't blocked yahoo.com or accidentally blocked images, iframes, etc. via a wildcard.
If you have AdBlocker installed,
  1. Click AdBlock under the Tools menu.
  2. Click Preferences.
  3. Remove any entries from the blocked sites list that contain "yahoo.com" or "yimg.com".
  4. Click Done.
If you don't have AdBlock installed, check your Firefox options:
  1. Click Options under the Tools menu.
  2. Click Web Features.
  3. Click Exceptions next to Load images.
  4. Remove any sites listed that contain "yahoo.com" or "yimg.com".
If you still don't see the Download button, either your user profile is corrupt or you have another extension installed that is blocking images from Yahoo! Please a new profile or try running Firefox in Safe Mode. In addition, see the Mozilla Firefox FAQ link under More Help.

there are red blocks where images or pictures are suppose to be on all yahoo sites

hi,

Outlook Express comes with a default setting that blocks email attachments from being opened or downloaded. This can be overcome by clicking on Tools>Options>Security, and unchecking "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." You also need to have "Block images and other external content in HTML email" unchecked.
