Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Eye of the tiger!!

Sometimes our Cd, DVD, and other units that read different formats won't read? Common problem is usually moisture build up on the eye that read the disc & creates a film that covers the sensor. If your a bit savy with hands and small tools you may solved the problem with common products at home, example: I learned by experience that some of this units have a hard time reading your disc so what I do is simple get your self some long Q tips, alcohol Isophropyl and a can of compress air that you could adquire at your local major stores, then dip the Q tip in one side with alcohol then open your unit carefully and rob the sensor eye that reads the disc with the Q tip. Next rob with the clean side of Q tips the eye again to clear ot the rest. With you compress air. blow carefully till dry off. Some units you may have to unscrew the unit to access it but some units you could reach the eye with a ln Q tip.

My unit DVD/ VCR the DVD when I put in DVD it won't play it just flashes a blinking DVD how do u fix?

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor. Also in some cases the central motor base can shift and so the distance to the disc can be more resulting in low detection. You can pull up the spindle to come closer.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

Thank you for using Fixya

Cd error on my shaker 500 in my mustang do I need a new stereo or can I fix this. Thanks Dean

Hi Dean,
Although it isn't generally public knownage, the original "standard format" for recorded audio was established as ".wav" and is universally readable by vertually all cd players portable, auto and home systems, unless it is "designed" as an "MP3" player specifically and is usually noted somewhere on the unit. If you burn your own disks, although the file sizes are bigger (almost 2-3 times the bit size), they will be readable in alot more players. Recording in "MP3" format, you can get lots more songs on a disk however, you may notice the difference between the "sound" of the two different formats on the same song, it has to do with the "sample rate" and the "interpretation" of the sound by the format. (long explanation not important but, if you're interested you can find tons of information about audio anywhere on the web)
Many audio units read "both" as well as other audio formats that are "computer" or "digitally" created and are actually computer "languages" with different applications like ".WMA" which is "windows media audio", so, depending on the format of the disk you tried playing when you got the error code, it may be that simple, your unit cannot "read" the format the disk was created with and is telling you "cd error". The same thing would come up if you put a dvd or a computer cd in it.
If you only had trouble with that one particular cd, try a commercially produced cd or one you know worked before and so long as it plays you have your answer.
If other disks including commercial cd's won't play, you may have to use a "cd player cleaner", a disk designed to clean the optical laser inside the unit, they usually have tiny brushes on the disk and may or may not come with a cleaning fluid to use with it.
Hope this helps :)

samsung dvd player wont read disk. says disc error

There a few causes of this.Check your manual to see what discs it won`t play.e.g finalised.,formatted
Moisture could have condensed inside the unit.Remove the disc and leave the unit turned onfor about 2 hours until the moisture evaporates.
Also check the region code and the appropriate dvd code to play on it.
