Tip & How-To about Craftsman 6mm Socket, 6 pt

Keeping a bolt on a Socket to reinstall

Without a Magnetic Socket some bolts will not stay in the Socket to reinstall. I have found a handy trick to keep small screws for Electrical parts and large bolts for Starters on the Socket.

Under the lid of my Toolcases I put a strip of Duct Tape. When I come across a stubborn screw or bolt, I just peel off the Duct tape and tape the screw lightly to the Socket. Once I get the screw started I twist the extension or Nutdriver and recover the tape. Then I tighten the screw or bolt the rest of the way.

Having the Duct Tape already in my toolcase saves me from crawling out from a vehicle and having to walk away from my Project to get some tape.
It saves time and effort and makes some near impossible jobs possible.

Can someone tell me how to change a starter on a 2006 ford fusion

For a 4 cylinder, take negative battery cable off, raise and safely support car, it's from underneath. There may be an underbody cover, 7 screws, then on the starter only two electrical connections, battery cable big nut (plastic cover aside first), and small wire nut, both connections on the starter solenoid. Then the starter mounting bolts, a bolt on top side, and a stud on the lower or bottom side, they kind of angled in, one on top, and the stud on the bottom. When those two loose, starter is free. Oh, yes, on the stud mount is a wire harness retainer, off that and set aside.

Reinstall in reverse. Torque: starter motor bolt and stud bolt-18 ft/lbs. battery cable nut -9 ft/lbs. small wire nut - 44inch/lbs. just snug. don't need a torque wrench on any of them, use your best judgement. 18 ft/lbs is pretty solid tight without agonizing it, 44 inch pounds is like 3 1/2 ft/lbs-use a tiny box end wrench or socket and just tight so the wire is not loose.

Half the light is out on the information console in my 2006 Toyota 4runner. Can I fix that?

Blown bulbs , easy!.
Remove the shroud under the steering column , ( the one where the fuse box and bonnet release is situated)
This will give you access to the bottom screws of the binacle around the speedo ( other screws up from underneath above the speedo)
Once binacle removed you will see the screws holding the speedo in, remove them and ( with the steering tilted fully down) remove the speedo head, there should be 3 or 4 electrical plugs in the back of the speedo ( don't worry they only fit one way and can't be muddled up )
In the back of the speedo are twist clips retaining the bulbs, remove and replace blown bulbs.
Reverse procedure to reinstall speedo.
A magnetic phillips head screwdriver is handy to get the screws back in without loosing them into the back of the dashboard.

My pokemon yellow version is not saving. What should I do without going to the store?

Sadly there isn't much that can be done without buying a new part.

This saving issue is a common problem.
The battery withing the game cartridge has run dry and can not give enough power to hold the save data in the game.

The only way to fix this is to get another battery.
These can usually be found at any electronics parts shop.
You'll need to see the battery's number on top of the battery inside the cartridge however. Though this info should be out there on the internet somewhere.

The hard part though, is getting the darn game cartridge open.
You'll need a special small security screw screw driver.
These can sometimes be found in some security screw tool kits and other more less common screw driver kits.

Once you're in you should be able to remove the battery with a little work and replace it with the new one.
I'd suggest using electrical tape to keep it in place if you are afraid to solder it to the metal tabs. Soldering is usually the best way to go as it keeps everything in place for good.

I hope you find a way to fix it that'll work for you
Good luck.

How do I change the Drivers side Turn signal bulb in the mirror?

Actually the first answer was right.  On my 2007 Sprinter chassis, the side mirrors have an upper flat mirror and a lower convex mirror.  The upper mirror comes off exactly as described; by tilting it so that it faces down, and then gently lifting it from the top to slide it off the track. (On my sprinter the mirrors are heated, so there are wires that remain attached when you slide it off. This reveals three screws that you can get at with a torex screw driver without needing any flexible shafts etc.  It appears that there is a fourth screw or clip of some sort on the bottom, but I was not able to figure out how to get the bottom convex mirror off to get at it.  That would enable the removal of the full shell. Even without that bottom screw I was able to flex the shell enough to get the turn signal lens assembly out.  But removing it entirely requires reaching in with needle nosed pliers and rotating the bulb assembly a quarter turn, and then reversing the whole assembly to get it back.  In my case I was replacing the turn signal lens, but it should work the same for replacing the bulb. Good luck.
