Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

If your Windows Vista explorer.exe fails to start up automatically on every boot

1) Please see if it starts in safe mode. If it does then obviously something is interfering with its normal start in regular mode.
2) I suggest you scan for malware in safe mode, remove infections if any and reboot.
3) See if a System Restore helps you.
4) Open regedit and navigate to :
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon In the RHS Pane, ensure that the default string value of : "Shell"="Explorer.exe". Exit. 5) Start >Search Menu Bar > SFC /scannow > rt click on result > Run As Administrator. KB928228 will show you how to analyze the log file entries that SFC.exe generates in Vista. Hope something helps.

i have dell vostro 1014 with windows 7. i tried to install ZoneAlaram antivirus version 9. and i t got sucessfully installed and asked whether to restart or not. i opted for restart. while restarting its asking me to start whether in normal mode or safe mode. if i choose normal mode again its coming back to the same window to choose which mode u want to start and if i choose to start in safe mode it saying"please wait" and its like that for hours. what might be the problem? what should i do? please do need ful.

It sounds like windows doesn't like a driver that zone alarm installed... when the PC starts, just tap on F8 a few times until the screen pops up to offer you to go into safe mode... select "Last known configuration" (i.e. the configuration that worked prior to installing zone alarm...

it should reboot and all should be well...

Check the version of Zone Alarm to ensure it is compatible with Windows 7...

i brought my hp about 2 years ago it worked for about a month now im trying to fix it but when it comes on it goes to the screen where it asksstart windows normally how do i reboot

You can choose to start windows normally and it should bring you to regular desktop. If not to reboot you actually have to shut it off by holding down power button until it shuts off. If still issue try to boot in to safe mode by pressing F8key on boot up and keep on pressing it till advanced start up comes up. Once in safe mode try to run virus scan to see is there any viruses. Also in same menu there is safe mode with networking if you choose this one you can do updates since it will allow you to go online even that you are in safe mode. This might resolve the issue.Hope this helps.

Undoing the "safe mode"

Yes, you should be able to reboot and it should automatically go back into regular mode.

If it doesn't, upon the next reboot tap the F8 key after your computer starts. A menu should appear with safe mode and start windows normally. Select the normal option. If a "boot menu" appears, select the hard drive, press enter then immediately hit the F8 key again for that menu although it should just reboot right into regular mode.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution with a fixya rating.

The problem is really on your operating system. You have to reinstall the O.S. of your pc. Have your windows installer ready and repair the damaged operating system and it will go back to normal.
