Clean everything out, upgrade your RAM, (if possible) upgrade your processor, upgrade your hard drive (more gigs of space) if needed, get another fan if you need to, don't download pogo games or anything like it. always keep everything updated like java programs, direct x, adobe flash, etc. Always make sure nothing is cluster with unnecessary files and folders and clear out the cache and cookies often

I have an ET1161-05- can it be upgraded to hold more memory and run faster?

Hi.
Yes, your computer came with 2 gig's of ram in the form of 2 1gig modules of ddr2 ram.

There are 4 slots for memory all together, and each slot can hold 2 gig memory chips in each one, for a total of 8 gig's of ram!

That would cause a serious performance improvement for you.

It also came with a 160 gb hard drive, so if you want to, you can get as larger drive as well.

As far as processors, a dual core, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Brisbane 2.9GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W processor will fit in with absolutely no bios updates required, so all you would have to do is take the old processor out, put the new one in, and turn the computer on.
It will recognize the new processor automatically, and will work right away!

This will have a significant performance boost, possibly doubling the total speed of your computer.

I hope this helps you out, and have a good day !

processor upgrade

You have a P4 Processor.... a 3.0 was the fastest. I would not upgrade the processor. You can however upgrade the Motherboard if you can do it yourself. That will take you to a SATA Hard Drive system and allow you to afford some faster RAM and Cheeper RAM.

Another option: get 1 gig of ram, new Hard Drive and Win7. Speed improvement will be double.
