Hi there

The disk read error on the PS3 can be a number of causes, the 1st step would be to clean the disk, then clean the lens in the disk drive, if that fails then it could be the disk drive or laser that needs re-aligning.

the best way to do all these fixes is with a PS3 repair guide that has been written by an expert and made it beginner freindly.

Hi - When I insert a gaming or music disk into my PS3 it makes a noise as if it wants to eject the disk again. This either happens or otherwise it wont recognize that a disk has been inserted. This problem has just start happening. I have recently taken my PS3 to a mates place and back home again. Could transporting it have caused this problem? Hope you can help. Luke

Hello, It's possibly lens calibration problem, sometimes that happens when there's a lot of sudden movements during transportation, sometimes the use of scratched disks tend to trigger the Error correction algorithm of the PS3 reader, putting the reading lens into a lot of stress that heats up the EC chip and games are not read properly, causing the game to fail loading and making unusual sounds.
I recommend not to use scratched disks, try to use only PS3 game disks only to extend your console's life, and take good care of all your disks, keep them clean.
The thing is as technology improves Disks format changes to put more information into a single disk, and precision looking for data is more critical as data sectors are closer to each other, so scratched or dirty media tends to return errors.
Hope I helped, and try to seek some professional help on calibrating/substituting your old reader.

how do you clean a blue ray eye on a ps3

Here is a great video showing you how to clean the lens.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSYYmYXgVl0
Here is some more info if the youtube video isn't getting it done:

So your shiney black pearl stopped reading discs huh? Now you are wondering if you can fix it because A)You are out of warranty and don't wanna pay almost 200 bucks to have it fixed or B) You are under warranty but don't wanna be without your PS3 for almost a month or longer .... Maybe you casn fix it on your own, if the problem is simple enough.

Sometimes the PS3 won't read discs simply because the lens is dirty, to find out if thats the case insert a game or blu-ray disc ... take careful note of the disc's 'label' as you put it in ... once it doesn't read after 10-15 seconds eject it ... if the disc's label hasn't moved your blu-ray drive's 'motor' is broken. Best bet is to send back to Sony and pay em. Or take the PS3 apart and try to replace the whole blu-ray drive.

If you remove the disc and notice it has moved your lens is probably dirty. This you 'can' fix yourself. First give the PS3 a GOOD cleaning. Vacuum it, blast it with a can of compressed air, vacuum again. Try disc.

Didn't work? Try a lens cleaner kit.

Didn't work? Time to get your hands dirty ... open the PS3 up (at your own risk) and clean the laser manually with pure alcohol and a q-tip. (video tutorials are on youtube.com)

Disc read errors are our main problem. It isn't some full blown epidemic but IS becoming worse by the day. My reasoning for this problem is simple: The PS3 is a dust MAGNET. I'm betting 90% of the disc read errors are cause by dust and dirt and pet hair getting in the machine and making the lens dirty or causing actual failure of the drive motor itself.

I love the PS3 and wish it didn't fail for anyone, especially this month with great titles almost here, but it happens. Happened to me on April 1st and I found out my blu-ray drive motor failed. A dirty lens I woulda fixed on my own. We really need a good blu-ray cleaner kit to come on the market in all major retail stores.

My PS3 won't read/load disk. What do I do to fix

Hi,
This is a common problem on the ps3 unfortunately and is caused by a faulty blue-ray drive. Unit will have to go back to Sony for service.

You should try a DVD cleaning disk first to be sure that dirt on the laser lense is not causing the issue.

However if this fails and you are confident with electronics there are several videos on YouTube showing how to replace the drive if you choose to order it and do it yourself.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.
