Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Mitsubishi LED keeps flashing green constantly

This problem happens on many Mitsubishi TVs, older CRT projections, and some of the older DLP projection TVs. The flashing LED means the TV is booting up, but it should stop in 90 seconds after plugging in AC power or resetting.

The typical cause for this is bad Capacitors (caps) in the DM module. 95% of the time its the caps, but could need a new DM module. Almost always the caps are bulged like in this picture:

They should always be flat on the top, if they're bulged, they're bad. In some cases they will not be bulged but will still be bad.

In almost every case, these caps are 1000uf @ 16 Volt caps, and should be replaced with 680uf @ 16 V caps @ 105c. The caps are always solder in parts.

In the CRT projections, there are 4 or 7 of them on the DM module that sits on the very left side of the chassis when viewed from the back of the TV set.

In the DLP projections, there are quite a few more, and they are on the FMT and DM board (4 each) and sometimes 4 will go bad on the power supply. The DLPs also have some larger caps that will go bad on the power supply causing a false lamp error.

In the case of the DLP caps going bad, Mitsubishi rebuilds the "Chassis" for service centers for about $250-300 + labor required. This is typically the recommended repair for these sets as they require extensive disassembly and mechanical skill to repair.

In the case of the CRT projections, repair is quite easier and can be repaired by people with some mechanical know-how and basic soldering skills.

For either repair, search the web and you can usually find a tutorial with instructions and explanations like the one found here:

I have Mitsubishi dlp WD60638. It will not turn on at all. There are no lights blinking and no sound is coming from the tv. Any ideas, or should I just purchase a new one.

This sounds like you have blown the fuse protecting the power supply. The cost of analyzing and fixing the problem will go a long way towards a new TV. The newest LED-backlit LCD sets with local dimming are much better than the older projection TVs. They are brighter, sharper, and provide better blacks. I know which way I would go.

Looking what i can do to fix. Have a Mitsubishi TV 3D DLP WD-73640, Replaced bulb, and still have the red LED flashing 6 times to the Yellow led flashing 1.

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Blinking codes details to many popular brand TVs are given. Surf the site with patience.
Check the lamp ballast too.

Good morning, I am in the moving business and have a customer that wants me to move their large TV Mitsubishi medallion tv. She thinks is comes apart in two peices for easy moving and I need instructions and or a manual to do it properly. Thanks, Richard I need a manual for a mitsubishi medalion hd-1080.

If the model is a WS-65809 that sey doesnt come apart. Actually very few rear projection TVs can be seperated Some RCA TVs can be disassembled to several pieces. Also I would let customer know that because a CRT TV has three CRTs that are aligned to each other , Moving the TV will cause the convergence to be adjusted. Based on model it can be just pressing the auto convergence option with the remote, But older rear projection TVs (2003 and older) have been known to blow ICs after a move when trying to reset the convergence. The ICs weaken over age and they can blow anytime the convergence adjustment feature is used, so its always a good thing to let someone know that even if very careful when being moved there set may develop convergence issues after a move because its a 3 CRT rear projection TV
