Tip & How-To about Refrigerators

How to tell if you need a new fridge seal?

So, you'r wondering, "Do I need a new Door Seal on my Fridge?" Well one simple, and foolproof method, is to use a large Torch, turn the Torch on, and place in middle shelf, of the fridge, facing OUT, now, Close the Door, (It may be best to do this at night actually), Now, have a look for any light escaping, around the door, anywhere you see the light, is an area where the cold, gets out. Sometimes you can see if manipulating the Fridge Door Seal & Magnet, at those Areas, and sometimes you can get small areas to close up, but if you have any big areas, or many, many, small areas, then it is time to Replace that Door seal For sure. There should actually be NO Light at all. The door seal should seal 100%, if not, then as related, the Door Seal, must/should be replaced.

Refrigerator door will not stay closed. It pops open. The seal is not the problem as it is a fairly new fridge. How do you adjust this?

under the fridge you will find adjustable feet to level the unit, mine has a screw and large plastic nut that sits on the floor and i just turn it up/down to get it right.some fridges vary but principal is same.

Hi my Asko fridge has a freezer compartment - I

not sure why the seal is faulty but yes you can buy a rubber seal for the door go to your local hardware store you might have to look in the section that stops drafts from entering a room or rubber flex material with a adhesive tape that can be formed into any shape eg around a outlet pipe or to seal a window etc and you can always trim some rubber sealer to fit if its a little large . I used a foam roll with adhesive tape to seal my freezer door on a mini bar fridge and its still in use today

Fridge door pops back open

The seal on your door may not be sealing properly, when you close the door the seal helps create a vacuum which keeps your door closed firmly, you might need to replace the door seal, you could also try leveling your fridge by putting shimmys underneath the feet, you might also want to check to make sure there is nothing sticking out of your fridge such as drawers or food racks that may keep the door from closing all the way. good luck.

I believe that the seal around the fisher & paykel freidge door is too old, how much for replacing with a new one? The phenominon is-- it always has water inside the freidge at out side of the freezer. Thank you very much

Normally if the you think the seal is too old than it is, I normally work on commerical fridges and the way that I check is too shine a torch inside the fridge and see if you can see any light gaps.

Where abouts are you and I will recommend someone to be able to change the seals. Normally they are about60-110 Supply or 80-120 supply and Install.

I would highly recommend getting someone in to change it for you thou as If done wrong it can warp the fridge door

Hope that helps
