How to achieve 300 Mbps speed in N standard routers ?

To achieve 300 Mbps speed in N standard routers:
In order to achieve 300Mbps speed between router and your wireless computer you must have an N standard router from belkin and also the wireless adapter on our computer should be an N standard (802.11n).

If you fulfill the above criteria then you can follow these simple steps to achieve 300Mbps speed between your computer and router.

  • Connect any Computer to the Router in one of the 4 ports named wired (usually grey in color) using an Ethernet cable.
  • Open internet explorer / Firefox any of your web browser (chrome will not support).
  • In the address bar type the default gateway address of Belkin router 192.168.2.1
  • Belkin router setup page (RSP) will be displayed.
Step 1: Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
In the Belkin router Setup page, on your left hand side, you will have Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) below WIRELESS. Click on Wi-Fi Protected Setup. If it prompts you for a login password, leave it blank and Click on Submit.WPS will be enabled by default. Change it to Disabled and Click on Apply Changes. It may or may not take some time to save the Information and brings you back to the same page.
Step 2: Security
Select Security found on left side of router setup page.Security mode will have the following options,
  • WPA / WPA2 (PSK)
  • 64-bit WEP
  • 128-bit WEP
  • Disabled
Now select this way.....
  • Select the security mode as WPA/WPA2.
  • Select the authentication type as WPA2.
  • Select the encryption type as AES.
Then you will be able to see the pre-shared key (PSK) or passphrase (PSK), in this box you need to type at-least 8 characters as the network password.
After typing the password you can verify the password by un-checking obscure PSK. Password is case sensitive. Once you are done check obscure PSK and Click on Apply Changes.
You need to enter the same password in your computer to get connected to your wireless network.

Step 3: Channel and SSID:
Once you are done with that select Channel and SSID found on the left side of RSP.
Change the Wireless Channel to 1 or 6 or 11 (these are the best non-overlapping channels for wireless networks).
Change the SSID to any name as you wish, this will be your wireless network name (I recommend you to use a single word of any length. It can have letters, numbers or combination of both).
Check whether the option Broadcast SSID is checked / enabled (it must be enabled).
Protected mode should be OFF.
Bandwidth should be selected as 20/40 or 20+40 MHz
Once you are done click on Apply Changes.
Now connect the computer to your wireless network.
It will be connected at a speed of 300Mbps.

I just brought a Tp-link TD-w896ON but the internet speed 1.67 mbps ??

The line speed is controlled by your internet service provider, not by your router. If you have something like AT&T as your internet service provider, then they sell 3 or 4 different line speeds or packages. The cheapest will get you the slowest line speed. So if you have a 300mbps router but you purchased AT&T's cheapest line speed it will never allow you to do downloads, uploads or streams at 300mbps. You gotta Pay to Play. :)

upgraded internet speeds. with direct communication modem to computer get DL speeds 36 and UL speeds 6.35. when go wireless and use router speeds drop to 7+ and 4+. is there new software/firmware update - using win 7

Max wireless speed on that router is 11Mbps theoretical. That is an ancient router. Buy a new router N standard You will get the same wired or wireless. N standard with triple band will run at 480Mbps, dual at about 300Mbps and single at 150Mbps.

Most of the wireless adapters comes under G standard, which can communicate only at a speed of 54 Mbps...
The N standard routers are backward compatible, which can communicate with N standard adapters at 150 Mbps, and with G standard adapters at 54 Mbps and with B standard at 11 Mbps...

The speed in which the adapters can communicate are listed below...

very slow

Since your laptop is wireless, G speed is only a maximum of 54 Mbps. N speed is usally 300Mbps.
Now your desktop, if its connected directly to your router with an ethernet cable, its speed can be 10/100/1000 depending on the routers network ports.
You could try to update the firmware of your router from the manufacturer's website.
