Tip & How-To about Sharp AR-M355N Copier

Replacing Toner on a Sharp AR-M350/450 or 355/455 Copier

It's very easy to mistake where and how to replace toner on this unit. It's often assumed that Area 1 is where the toner is. This is actually the Developer Housing. If the developer unit is pulled completely from the copier, its weight will often surprise the user and they drop it on the floor, or worse, dump out the developer believing that it's waste toner. The correct area for the toner cartridge is Area 2. Area 1 is used only to lower the developer unit and unlock it from the toner cartridge, so that the cartridge, itself, can then be removed freely from the copier. If the developer unit is mistakenly pulled and dropped or dumped, a service call will usually be required to recharge the developer unit.

2300dl toner problems

Unfortunalely printers and there drivers estimate toner life buy counting the amount of dots draws on the pages. Say a cartridge is rated for 3000000 dots when new, the printer will know after printing 1500000 dots that the cartridge is about half full. If you replace a cartridge the printer will assume it's new as the ID tag will be different from the last cartridge. There really isn't any way of modifying or specifying the age of a cartridge. You will just have to keep using it until you start seeing drop outs on the page, then you will know it is almost empty. Shaking it a few times will usualy help stretch the life of a cartridge.

smearing yellow toner on copies

Yellow is usually the least used color and it is usually near the fusing unit getting the heat. It seems to "dust" more than the others.I have found that yellow toner seems to build up under or around the yellow drum unit to the point that a passing page will contact the actual buildup near the yellow drum area. Take a visual inspection around the yellow drum area. Make sure you charge coronas are clean. Hope this helps.
