Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
Remove this virus from Vista by doing the following.
1.Make sure to show hidden files and folders
Go to the Control Panel
When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:
If you are in the Classic View do the following:
Double-click on the Folder Options icon.
Click on the View tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the button labeled Show hidden files and folders
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:
Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.
Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders and remove the checkmark from hide extensions for known fil types and also remove the checkmark from hide operating system files.
Now we find the folder that the tool is in -
In XP Open My computer - open your C:\ drive - look at users\allusers\application data look - and look for a folder named with 8 numbers -- eg..25467834 or similar.... open this folder and you should see the security tool in there...
Vista the best way is to find the shortcut for the security tool first.... Go to Computer -then C:\users\your user name\desktop\ and look for security tool shortcut.... right click and look at the properties - the end will give u the path of the virus...click Open file location and continue as below...
Right click on the security tool and rename it to anything ,,, doesnt matter...reboot the PC now...because we have renamed it - the security tool wont run on the reboot... now you gotta go back to where u renamed the tool and delete it..all done ? good.... delete the shortcut on the desktop also.
Download a great spyware removal tool called Malwarebytes (free) update and run it. delete what it finds... other tools i would run - your antivirus program whatever it may be and another great tool called Hitmanpro - great for rootkits....
This should clean up your PC - wouldnt hurt to download a prog called CCLEANER and run that...the PC should be functioning by now..if you still feel something is lurking a final piece of software to download would be kaspersky rescue disk....it allows the hard drive to be scanned before booting - make sure u are connected to the web via a ethernet cable. If your new to this Security tool - the first steps will remove it for you - the rest is just some useful software that i use daily and may help people out.
Need more - let me know.
