Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Run windows like new with virtual layers

Now for an in the box solution to an out of the box problem.

with all the malware running amok wrecking your registry, how long do you really think you can keep a clean install free of suspicious elements? why not just keep the bad guys in a lock box and let them run free there?

using sandboxie, an easy to install mostly fully functional free program that adds a layer of protection to existing programs, you will be able to keep a lid on automatically installing programs and keep your pc fresh for as long as you like. with the free installation you will only be able to use one sandbox at a time but that is more than enough for the average user as you can also setup multiple profiles. sandboxie works like explorer except that it hooks the programs which are run with it to its own registry box. if ever you encounter something you dont like, you can either reset the box to a previous fresh configuration or completely wipe away the offending program without a trace. in this manner certain downloads can be tested before its actually integrated into the system. the box can be used to hide files as well as save files and log securely onto websites. sandboxie has many special features yet so try it for yourself, its free.

Dx4400 boots to gateway logo and stays there for a long time

what windows do you have? what anti-virus? then check your
system tools program in Start/Accessories/, run Disk Cleanup
after system up. wait till finished then run Disk Fragmentor. If you
have a anti-malware program or anitvirus program run thoughs one after the other, cleanup first.
You may need to clean up your registry too. Make sure you have not downloaded any third party PC Cleaners, or programs which claim to keep pc running fast. these are usually bad and hog system resources. After doing what i have suggested, download CCleaner from Cnet.downloads web site. do a search to find it. after downloading CCleaner(free version), run the two top jobs on left of box. 1) Cleaner(broom icon), then after finished 2) Registry(stacked boxes icon). if 2) asks you if you want to save backup, say 'NO'. this will clean your harddrive of garbage and clean the PCs registry. These things can really slow you down.
Please DO NOT run anything else in CCLEANER. Only experienced computer users should change or runs any other program in it. Much harm could be done if YOU DO. Hope this helps.

My emails have all disappeared, including the IN box, sent box, email list, everything ! I have no idea how this happened as I was not even using my computer all day. HELP !!!

check if you have some adware/malware on your system, may be there are some huge processes running in the background without your knowledge.
Download "Spybot Search and destroy" and run this to clean up your system of any malwares, also you could download ccleaner to clean up your registries and other unused shortcuts that could be slowing down you system.

slow pc

Mun MSCONFIG and shut off everything you don't really need to run in the background. Reboot and do a full virus scan and a full malware / spyware scan. Next, run a greigtry cleaner program. All of these will work together to speed you up but the registry cleaner will really make the difference. It all but tripled the speed of my laptop.
