Motherboard supports Processors with a Front Side Bus (FSB) of either 800Megahertz, or 1066MHz.

1333MHz FSB support is done with OVERCLOCKING.

Intel Core2 Duo E6550 processor has a 1333MHz FSB.

I reduced the view size to 120 percent. Go to Page 27.
Press DELete key to enter BIOS Setup.

Use Down Arrow key to highlight - Fox Central Control Unit
Press the Enter key

CPU Frequency Setting should be set to 333 (333MHz)
Intel processors are 'Quad Pumped'
333MHz x 4 = Approximately 1333MHz. (1332)

Note the version of the BIOS program also.

Hi I just bought a Intel Core 2 Quad q8400 for my gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L. It won't boot up!!! It freezes when I try to enter bios setup and if I do manage to get in, it freezes at the options screen. It also hangs at verifying/building DMI pool. I have tried reseting CMOS, still the same problems occured. Core temp is fine running at 35-40 degrees celsius (managed to get into PC health status before it froze up). I have flashed my bios with the latest bios that supports the CPU. The old CPU works fine which is a Intel Core 2 Duo e6320. Thanks for your help

What size power supply are you running? If you are not running a minimum of 400watt , I would anticipate issues with this type of processor. Since it is freezing right away, it could be bad memory. You can try memtest86.com to download a memory test tool to verify.

Secondly, you may want to reset the board by moving the jumper from normal mode to reset mode.

last thing, it's not impossible for a processor to be bad. Since it is an Intel processor; it should have a 3 year warranty on it. Any dealer who sells Intel should be able to warranty replace it for you.
