I have the Aspire 5334-2598 and my usb 2.0 ports arent working i pruchased this computer new from radio shack in Oct 2010.. My e-mail is djedwards_5@hotmail.com

The issue yo are facing may be because the USB drivers are corrupted, I advise you to uninstall all the USB port. To do so:
Click Start> Control Panel> Hardware and Sound>Device Manager (click View hardware and devices)> Click the (+) sign in front of USB COMPOSITE DEVICES to expand it, you will a list of USB devices, right click on each of them & click UNINSTALL and then restart the computer.Once the computer is restarted wait for couple of minutes and then try to use a USB device. You should be back in business.

If in case the issue still persists, then you can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction.
NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

Thanks and regards,

I had to restore my dell studio back to the factory condition and when I went to install the printer (dell 924 all in one) I could not find the disc.

If the Printer drivers disc is not detected in the computer, try using another disc (it could be anything, music, movies, any disk which you know is good) on the same computer.

If the second disk works, try Step 1 else skip to Step 2 below.

It look like an issue with your drivers disk. Unfortunately, Dell doesnt provide replacements for Printer drivers disk anymore. But, you can always download the drivers from the support website (Use the link below).

It seems to be an issue with the settings of the optical drive of your system.

1. Check if the drive letter appears in the "Computer" of your system. To do this, click on 'Start' 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.pngand click on 'Computer'. If the icon for your drive doesn't appear here, it could be an issue with the DVD drive itself, or the Windows Vista/7 OS.

2. If the drive icon appears, but the disk doesn't work, try check the Device Manager for errors. To open the device manager, try one of the following steps:
  • Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  • Click on Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, type "device manager" in the Start Search box, and click on Device Manager in the list that populates above.
  • Press and hold the Windows key on the keyboard and press Pause-Break key. It would open the system properties dialog. On the left hand side, click on Device Manager. To reach the system properties, you can also click on Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png , Right-click on Computer and click on Properties.
3. If the Device manager shows a yellow exclamation or a question mark sign next to you DVD drive, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Start Collapse this imageExpand this image vistastartbutton.jpg, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.

Collapse this imageExpand this image securityshield.jpg If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
  2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
  3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
  5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
  6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
  7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
This should resolve your problem.

Hi s8vysakh6 ,

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

Step 1: Run the fixit provided in the link below.
Check if the issue is resolved

Step 2: Connect the device to a different USB port\ and also connect the USB pen drive to another computer to eliminate issues with the pen drive itself.

If the issue persists,

Step 3: Reinstall USB controllers.

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

1. Click "Start", type in Device Manager the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.

2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the "Host Controller", click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows vista will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Step 4: Update the motherboard driver to the latest version.
Note: Please check with the motherboard manufacturer before installing the driver.

If the issue persists, you may want to check with USB pen manufacturer for any unknown issues.

Hope this will help !
