Making a website can range from a simple one hour exercise to a complicated project worked on by a team of experts over a period of many months. If you need a site like the major retail chains, you need to hire an expert. If you want a simple site for your family or hobby, chances are, you can do it yourself.
You need two things:
- A website
- A server to host your website so that it can be shared on the World Wide Web.
- I won't recommend a company but if you Google "Website Templates" you will find many sites that offer them from "Free" to a lot of money. The "Free" sites usually ask you to leave their name and a link to their website at the bottom of the page.*
Find a template that you like and download it. Follow the step by step instructions and you will easily change the dummy headlines and text, replacing them with your own words. Replacing pictures with your own is a simple matter of "Drag and Drop".*
- When you have your site ready, you need a hosting site. Again, I won't recommend a company but a quick Google search for "web hosting", will bring up a number. Compare prices for basic hosting. With your small site you don't need all the bells and whistles.*
When you decide on a host, and give them your credit card info, they will give you space and access info. If the instructions for uploading your site seem too difficult, don't despair... customer service is almost always very good and they will walk you through it; your ten dollars a month (more or less) may not seem like much, but they want it.*
- You can do it, go for it! If you need something unique and wonderful... call me.
