Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

One way to tell if your remote control needs to be replaced

Look at the output end of your remote control. Press a button on the remote control. Notice you don't see anything. Turn on a digital camera/cell phone camera and look at the output end of the remote control through the viewscreen. Now press a button. If you see a flashing light the remote control is most likely working. If you do not see a flashing light when you press a button on your remote control while looking at the output end through the viewscreen of a digital/camera cell phone camera then your remote control most likely needs to be replaced.

Receiver does not respond to the remote control (AVR 65S). Seems either product is defective. How to tell which one is defective?

The obvious answer is to change the batteries in the remote control! If this doesn't work, you can check if your remote control is outputting anything by pointing it at a digital camera, and while viewing the camera's screen, press one of the buttons on the remote. You should see a white light appear on the camera's screen if the remote is working. This doesn't work with ALL camera's but it does with 4 of my video and still digital cameras. This should at least let you know that the remote is functional, it doesn't mean that it is programmed correctly.

Remote does not work for samsung ht-c550 Lights work when the button is pressed but the device is not receiving the signal.

The batteries may be to low to operate the IR transmitter, but still turn the lights on when you press a button.
If you have a cell phone with a camera, turn the camera on and look IR transmitter end of the remote. It may have a dark red lens. Press some buttons on the remote, and you should be able to see the IR signal in the cell phone. If not, try new batteries in the remote. If that does not work, it could have a problem with the code for the TV. Try to reprogram the TV button.
