Why won't my sylvania netbook which runs WINDOWS CE..but it NEVER gets to the desktop page...what wrong?

I'm not familiar with Windows CE, but I have had similar problems with Windows 7 on laptops.

Try keeping the F8 key depressed when starting it up. The F8 key should allow you to start in 'safe mode'. I would imagine that the F8 'safe mode' is also to be found in Windows CE.

Keep pressing that F8 key as it powers up and hopefully it will present you with a screen that gives you a choice of 'safe mode' or network prompt. Choose 'safe mode'.

If your computer then starts in safe mode (it's just a minimum amount of drivers loaded to start the operating system) .. restart it again and see if it starts normally. You may have to 'play' and keep restarting it and pressing F8 ..

You can also change the boot up sequence as the computer starts. This is usually done by pressing the 'delete' key -or escape or f12 key (it varies from computer to computer)..

.. to take you to the bios settings. Change the boot order..if the dvd drive/usb is the first boot up device change it to hard drive as the first boot up device .. and see what happens.

It's almost as if the computer gets stuck in an endless cycle of 'trying to boot up' which is probably due to software conflict, for whatever reason.. some driver may not be loading to allow it to boot up correctly.

my branded hp desktop not booting to windows

Reboot yor machine while holding the F8 key as it boots back up. A menu will apear. Choose -->"start windows in safe mode with networking".
The os will start in safe mode. run an AVG virus scan, then run Defrag by exploring your computer, right click on C: drive, click PROPERTIES, then the TOOLS tab, click the "check now" button, and only checkmark the top box 'fix file system errors', then click ok, the computer will then tell you it will scan upon next reboot., Now click the DEFRAG NOW button. the choose defrag. After Defrag runs for about an hour and it is finished, restart the system. If is still won't run normally, go back into Safemode buy pressing F8 on reboot, then run a registry fixing program such as uniblue registrybooster, then reboot again. If it still won't run right, you may want to reinstall Windows and see if that works. If reinstalling windows doesn't fix it, it is definitely a hardware problem.
Good luck.

how to start in safe mode

Windows XP and Vista

Using the F8 Method:
  1. Restart your computer.
  2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Advanced Options menu.
  3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
  4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
  5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

What operating system are you using? Screen-savers sometimes cause problems with defrag, so try shutting off your screen-saver...if you're using one.
