Tip & How-To about Heating & Cooling

Most common heating and air conditioning problem.

The most common HVAC problem i find is that the air filter is needing to be changed or is missing witch causes the evap coil to get plugged up, causing low air flow witch will trip a limit switch during the heat mode , and in A/C mode will cause the evap coil to ice up .clean or change your air filter every other month and make sure it is put in facings the right way there is an arrow on the side of the air filter it should be facing in the direction of the air flow. also if your a/c condenser is out side on the ground make sure the coil is clean and clear of any weeds or other da bree that would restrict air flow

the air unit is frezzing up and the air is never under 70 degress in the house! whats making it keep frezzing up?

Hi, when the unit freezes up, it is either low on freon, a plugged a/c filter, or the evaporator coil is dirty and will need to be cleaned. When the evap. coil freezes up, the blower motor can't blow air through the coil. Check the filter, and behind the filter to see if the coil is dirty, just remove the screws to excess the evap. coil on this unit. Make sure the blower motor is running up to speed also. You will know. If the coil is dirty, try and clean it the best you can and replace the filter. If it continues to ice, you will need to have the freon level checked> These are the # 1 causes of coils icing up. Please let me know how it turns out.

my air conditioner when it gets really hot outside starts to freeze up and does not cool

a\c freezing is caused by two, things poor air flow (dirty filter, dirty evap. coil. or a dirty blower wheel) or a low freon pressure (low charge or a metering device that is not working right). dirty filters and blower wheels are fairly easy. for dirty coils i use a dog brush to remove the dirt from the entering side of the coil. if it is low pressure you need to call a service tech so they can figure out witch problem it is

2006 ram - restricted air flow. where are the

If your talking about no air flow, at the vents, floor, defrost, there are no doors that will restrict air flow, then you have a plugged Ac evaporater core, with foriegn matter, leaves, dirt, and oil from the ac itself, leak in evap leak cause this, as long as the blower is working on all speeds, remove the motor for inspection and evap , an other way to inspect the evap, remove the evap sensor grommet, look inside of hvac, the core will be plugged, this is an expesive repair to do. GOOD LUCK. RDJRP

what causes my evaporator to freeze up

This can be caused by a few things.Check for a clean air filter. If the filter is dirty the air flow is slowed and lets ice form and over time the coils freeze over. The next thing to look for is a dirty evap coil. Same thing. if the coils are dirty the air flow is restricted and causing freeze ups. if this all looks ok then its time to call in the pro's. For environmental purposes all HVAC techs are citified to handel freon in the correct way. They will check the system for leaks and repair them followed by a freon recharge.
