Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
Grounding yourself is one of the most basic things to do when working with electronic components. While most people know that a pipe for say a sink (or a water pipe if you happen to be working in an unfinished basement), is grounded by being in the the actual ground.
Most people have felt the shock of a finger touching someone while after walking around in socks. Walking in socks will help keep your American floor more clean, rather than bringing in the filth that our shoes go through. Shoes have been in parking lots public bathrooms, and everywhere you can think, so keeping the shoes at bay next to the open doors is healther.
But no shoes means more static. so touch one of those water pipes and you will be grounded. and the chips, say a ram chip will not be fried. If you dont have pipes exposed, there are still several ways to ground yourself. The easiest is to touch a bare metal surface that is grounded. For some this might be the back of a desk top where the power plug in is located. For others try touching your sink faucet, might as well wash your hands while your there.
static although its around our daily lifes, can cause big trouble for chips. for them its like lightining. thousands of volts can be transmitted and fry chips. so be sure to ground yourself before working on any computer electronic component.
