Grounding yourself and saving your components from shock

Use a broomstick handle to see if disposal blades rotate freely
If blades are stuck, use broomstick to wedge blades free.

If blades rotate freely, and motor does not turn on, then garbage disposal is broken.
Disposal mechanism cannot be disassembled for repairs.
Disposal will need to be replaced at some point.

I wrote tips for replacing disposal from days when I worked apartment maintenance.

Here are basic disposal parts:
1) Sink basket that connects to sink and is held with 3 screws from below.
2) Disposal body which connects to sink basket using metal ring.
3) Rubber washer between disposal and sink basket.
4) Dishwasher connection at upper part of disposal with a hose.
5) Electric wire from disposal switch connects to disposal near red reset button.
6) Tubular drain pipe connection on side of disposal

In apartment maintenance, we replaced disposal with same size and brand disposal.
That way we didn't have to change out sink basket or move pipes around under the sink.
How to: Disconnect 2 nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Using hammer and screwdriver, rotate steel connector disk that holds disposal to sink basket, and disposal comes off.
Before installing new disposal.
Attach electric wire to new disposal, black wire to black and white to white, and push in red reset button.
Attach dishwasher tube to new disposal. Knock out plug inside dishwasher opening.
Lift new disposal up into place, and attach to old sink basket.
There is a rubber washer between disposal and sink basket, Use new washer.
Connector ring catches at three points, all three have to connect.
You can use bottle jack to lift disposal if you have problem.
Re-assemble tubular pipe.

If this is your home, you want new sink basket that comes with new disposal because it looks shiny and new.
Buy a tub of plumbers putty also.
Remove 3 screws that hold sink basket, remove basket and clean sink opening.
Put finger-size roll of plumbers putty around sink opening, and then push new strainer basket into plumbers putty.
Tighten basket from below, wipe away excess putty around sink opening.
Install new disposal as described above.



Tips for tubular pipes:
When taking apart tubular pipes, start at p-trap and take apart as few pieces as needed to do job.
On image above, loosen both upper and lower nuts, trap falls loose, and then work on disposal.
Any tubular drain pipe that gets moved while working under sink needs to be disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled.
Metal pipes have rubber washer >> always use new rubber washers.
Plastic pipes have plastic washers > plastic washers can be cleaned and re-used.
Plastic washers have flat side that goes toward nut, tapered side away from nut.



When reassembling tubular pipe, we use rectorseal on washers and joints.
Always slap a good amount all around washer just before pushing washer in place and attaching nut.
Rectorseal will ensure tubular drain pipes won't leak.

ok thats easy enough,,i dont do plumbing but i know appliances,,,go to one of your do it yourself home improvement places and purchase a plastic sink,,,sink has to hold 16 gallons ..or more,,add it to your pipe in the floor and let the water drain into tub first...the most your unit will drain at any one time is 14 gallons,,wash or rinse,,..onthejob...also you can place this truff anywhere with some pvc,,,hold thing might run 49.99..tops

Check your convergence first, use the AUTO adjust feature first then see if this clears up the problem. If the Auto adjust does not work then the following may be in order:

Only do this if you have a background in electronics, if you do not get a qualified TV technician to work on this set.

If you choose to do this yourself, here are the basic instructions:
1. Unplug the TV set
2. Take the rear bottom panel off
3. look for a large heat sink with two large black ICs (STK392-110) (6 sided components but rectangular in shape) on it, and remove the board the ICs are on from the TV set.
4. Unsolder the components using a soldering iron and a suction solder remover.
5. disconnect the components (ICs) from the heat sink
6. Unsolder all of the bias resistors and replace them with the proper values (usually 220, 150, 3.3, 2.2, and 3.9 ohms)
7. install the new ICs (STK392-110)
8. solder all connections IC and bias resistors
9. Inspect for shorts
10. reinstall circuit board
11. Plug the TV set in and turn it on.
