Firstly, you should try removing any spyware on your computer. Is there any particular anti-virus you use or any other anti-spyware, adware or malware programs?
I'd suggest Spybot Search and Destroy. Here's a tutorial explaining how to use it:
You can download it from this link.
Good luck.

by the sounds of it, you have some seftware that is using up your system resources, right click on the taskbar and select task manager, in here select the processes tab and click the "Show processes for all users" button at the bottom. This is a list of all of the software which is running on your machine. Click on the column header "CPU" and also look at CPU usage at the bottom of the screen, obviously the higher this number, the less system resources are in reserve for other software. Do a search on the internet for the Image Name of the software which is using the most resources and make sure that it is legitimate. If it isnt a recognised piece of software then you may have malware or a virus.

I would suggest to run both your anti virus siftware and your anti malware/spyware software as a matter of course just to check the system. If you dont have any anti spyware software, I always use superantispyware, its available as a free download and has always proved succesful for me.

Hope some of this works.
