Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
I find to begin with, when a computer is found by the side of the road,
in a dumpster or even from an office building or somebodies home they
are old and are in need of a clean up.
When bringging something like that home I first put it up on shelving off the floor and have a think about it. At this point I will jot down in my database that comes with Fedora linux, Time, Date, Place, any Serial Numbers, condition of the article and then I will consider what needs to be done.
This first tip is getting a plastic bucket, 4 litres of methalated spirits, a clean pump spray or squirt bottle, static strap and some coffee filters.
Wearing a static strap I find is optional when dealing with recycled computers and parts, since some have even been rained on. If you don't have one I'll run through later on how to make yourself one or they are priced anywhere from $2 to $10 at retail electronic stores.
Take the methalated spirits put it in your squirtbottle then proceed to gently spray clean the computer part over the plastic bucket or basin getting out any remaining dust or dirt using a cotton tip.
Then air dry, out on a towel and filter your used metho into secondary container or bottle through a coffee filter to save for later. Leave you with different grades of metho for later use depending on the job.
