Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Compac HP c300 cleaning of laptop clogged fan

If your computer has seen its time close to a blanket or anything else that can give off particles of lint and dust, and yes this means levis...then you need to do a cleaning. a good way to tell if it needs to be a major or minor clean is to look at the vents. you will feel the hot air, or used to be when your computer was on. This hot air exit needs to be free of all blockage.

Note to those who dont know laptops are not supposed to be used on your lap. they should be used on a TV tray or something so the air can flow better. ever notice were the manfactures put the intake and out puts of the fans? its not good for you or the computer.

in this illistration I wont show you the tear apart of the c300 but you can find it here. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00753552.pdf

Ill show you a client whom has a dog and lets say a blanket.....and Ill show you a computer that overheats. I use a Q tip to clean out betweeen the fins of the fan. you can then **** it up with a vacume. If you do decide to use compressed air or canned air make sure that you have a vacume going so it doesnt just transfer teh dust into the sir for you to breathe.

notice this top right hand side of the below photo? there are 3 pressure hooks, and one screw that have to be, screwed and leaverd off. or pried. I used a small screwdriver, but becareful as you will slip off of it. dont have a hand or something in the way from when you do slip so that you dont impair yourself. make note on how many screws you take out, and if your missing some which ones they are. you will have generally 2 piles. or 2 length of screws. the 12 and the 4 they both will be 2.54 x 12 and so on this is metric and represents millimeeters.

and the last one with it all clean! reassemble and PLEASE use static precautions! ground yourself at all times. and dont touch chips or internal anything that is black. and of course unplug it you silly.

my computer will turn on fine but if u leave it for say 20 min or even if im using it sometimes my computer will freeze completly and the harddrive just turns off because my computer remains on but ctrl alt delete wont work or anything else iv tired. also i tried to plug in different devices including a keyboard but my computer still wouldnt respond. i had to hold down the power button to shut it down any help on why this is happening?

Sounds like the problem could be heat related. Do you run your laptop in a pillow or blanket or anything like that? Make sure it's on a hard, flat surface.

Make sure the air intake and exhaust holes aren't blocked by anything (including excessive dust particles). You could try and get a "can of air" and spray out the dust if you suspect there is a lot (ie. in a dusty or smoky environment). Make sure there is warm air coming out the back of the notebook so you know it's exhausting the heat properly.

my cpu fan spins very fast than normal and makes a lot of noise. I use hp d530 cmt- 3.06GHz

Most fans are "temperature-sensitive" -- if it is sensed that your computer is close to over-heating, the fan will run at full speed, very noisily, to try to cool it.

So, shut it down, and disconnect the AC power.
Remove the side-panel.
Purchase a can of compressed-air.
Give the computer a "blow-job", to remove excess dust,
since the layer of dust is acting like a blanket,
keeping heat inside your computer.

I leave Michigan for the entire winter and there is no heat in the house, will below freezing weather hurt my lcd tv. Also can i store the tv in a flat position.

If you mean flat so you can slide it under a bed for example so it's not visible to someone looking through the windows, then that is fine. The easiest way to do it is lay a blanket on the floor, lay the TV onto the blanket on its back and put another blanket over the screen to help keep dust off it, then slide the whole thing under the bed.
The below freezing I cannot comment on, I live in Australia were cold means anything thats not over 30 degreess celcius =)
