Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

Minimizing Paper Jamming in any printer

When using any laser printer, monochrome or color machine, be sure to fan the paper before inserting into the paper cassette tray. The technique is simple. Holding a stack of paper in your hands, each hand on the short edge, flex the paper to create an arc in the stack. Then pinch down on the ends of the paper and straighten the arc out. You'll produce a bulge in the middle of the stack which creates an air space between every sheet in the stack. Now the paper will not cling and paper jams will not occur.
The 2nd tip is to note which "direction" the paper is cut because feeding the paper in one side first may provide better traction than if you were to feed the other end in first. Paper has a grain and its lays down in one or the other direction.

How to correct a Paper Jam message, when there is no paper in unit(printer)

First up, put paper in it. A failed pick up also registers as a paper jam. Run a test page and find out WHERE the paper feed stops. If the paper does not feed - Clean the primary pick up roller at the Front (usually) that takes paper from the cassette. Please not some of the larger machines have the pick up roller inconveniently placed at the back of the tray cavity

Supply rec paper tray - what does this mean when the tray is loaded?

OK, I was having a similar problem: Tray full of paper and tray adjusted properly.

Whatever I tried, the printer kept saying load paper.

I went to print menu>properties button (windows XP this is next to the printer name)>paper source tab.

It tuned out that the paper source had been changed from cassette to multi-purpose tray.

Change it back to cassette and you should be golden.
