Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to Configure a Wireless Printer Wireless printers typically come with a transmitter that a laptop, with a wireless adapter, can connect to and print from any location in a home. In order to configure a wireless printer you will need to install the drivers and software from the installation CD that came with the printer. You will be able to run the configuration for the printer driver, for the laptop, at the end of the software installation. Insert the installation disc for your wireless printer into the drive on your laptop computer. Wait for the Installation Wizard to appear. Click the "Next" button to continue and go through each screen to install the software for the printer. Select the option to "Configure printer driver now" on the last screen of the Installation Wizard. Click the "OK" button when the Information dialog box appears. Select the printer port for your printer when the Printer Port Setup dialog box appears. Click the "OK" button when the "addport" dialog box appears. Click the "Next" button to continue. Select your wireless printer from the list of installed printers when the Add Printer Wizard window appears. Click the "Next" button to continue. Click the "Connect" button when the Configure Printer Port dialog box appears. Wait for a connection to be made with the wireless printer and then click the "Finish" button to exit the Add Printer Wizard dialog box. Repeat this process on each computer that you want to connect to the wireless printer.

I have a Lexmark S405 that was installed on my network, since getting a new router the printer will now not connect to either my desktop or laptop, I have tried reinstalling software but neither computer will recognise the printer when connected. Do you know how to factory reset the printer for a clean install of software etc.

Try to reset your printer's wireless network adapter. From the printer operator panel, press the Setup button > Network Setup > Reset Network Adapter to Defaults. The WiFi light on your printer will momentarily turn off then on to a solid orange light. You may then run the printer wireless setup utility on your computer to configure the printer for wireless connection.

hi i have the canon mp490 all in one printer and i was just wondering how to i get things to print from my lap top

1) Install the network adapter on the printer, if necessary. Many wireless printers have the adapter pre-installed, but if this isn't the case, turn off and unplug the printer. Then, remove the back cover on the adapter slot and place the adapter into the slot.

2) Plug in and turn on the printer. Then, insert the drivers CD that came with the printer into the CD drive of the computer. If you've misplaced the CD, the drivers can be downloaded from the website of the printer's manufacturer.

3) Configure the network adapter. Once the drivers installation has loaded, select "Using a wireless network" and then select "Next". Usually, there is a User Agreement at this point, to which you will agree and press "Next".

4) Connect the laptop to the printer using a USB cable. Connect one end into the USB port on the back of the printer and the other end to a free USB port on the computer.

5) Finish configuring the network adapter. After connecting the laptop and printer with the USB cable, select "Create or modify the printer's wireless settings" and then click "Next".

6) Connect the printer to a wireless network. The wireless setup utility will automatically open after the adapter has been configured. Find your wireless network in the "Wireless networks found in your area" and select "Next". Then verify this information on the next screen.

7) Connect the laptop to the printer through the wireless network. Now, disconnect the USB cable. Make sure that both the laptop and printer are connected to your network. If they are, you're now set up.

Ive recently changed the password on my wireless network and now my printer keeps flashing orange which means it wont connect to the wireless. From reading a similar post i saw you recommeded to reset the preinters wireless network adapter - how do i go about doing that to resolve this issue?

To reset the printer's wireless network adapter:
  1. Press Setup(wrench icon).
  2. Go to Network Setup, press OK.
  3. Go to Reset Network Adapter, press OK.
WiFi light will temporarily turn off then will turn on solid orange. Now, run the printer's Wireless Setup Utility on your computer to configure the printer with the new wireless settings. You will need the USB cable temporarily to successfully configure the printer. Thank you for choosing Lexmark.

2WIRE wireless router/DSL from AT&T

unless this is a wireless enabled or lan RJ45 connectable printer you cannot, the pc that the printer is connected to must be on at the time of the printing.

Wireless printers have their own arial and allocated ip address, Lan RJ45 connective printers can be connected to the router.
