Tip & How-To about Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200 GB Hard Drive

Utilizing all 200Gb of my Maxtor 200GB HD

My name is Robert Bostick Sr.

I installed the above listed (200GB) Maxtor hard drive without any problems. However, this is where I discovered that all HD's will only recognize approximatly. 135GB.and that an Adapter PCI PC board would have to be installed to be able to recognize all 200GB. The remainder is not lost, but is installed like a second hard drive, but can only be used as a over flow space or for my music or photos. So, its not entirely bad. However, I want all 200. I have a new WD 80GB I could use for either my music or photos.

I read somewhere that I need a PCI Adapter for the computer to recognize all of the 200GBs. This is what I purchased on line. I purchased a "Rosewill" ATA-133 2-port Adapter with RAID.Part Number RC-200. Will this adapter solve my problem. Looking through all of your people questions Ion your Web Site I''m surprised I did not see a question like this. I guess I'm the only stupid old man out there.

If possible could someone give me a hand with this inherent situation. Also, will the Adapter PCI board I purchased work for this HD,

thanks so much for your time,

Best Regards,

Robert W. Bostick Sr.

Obtained a used Maxtor 6Y200P0 (DiamondMax Plus9) hard drive which should have 200GB (as advertised), but only 34GB is available. Reformatted the drive, but still only has 34GB. Verified it is not a jumper, or motherboard, issue. It has been installed in the same computer with a Seagate ST380021A (Barracuda ATA IV), as master. Then, reversed master/slave settings, and still receive the same constriction. I would really appreciate some help with resolving the problem.

You didn't say what kind of computer you are installing this drive in, or what operating system, but I can tell by your problem that you are trying to install it with a Windows xp, service pack 1 or older system disk. Often, the older windows disk will not let you see the entire contents of a large disk, and especially a problem if a smaller Hard drive is still present in the system.
A good solution to fix this problem is this:
Temporarily unplug your Seagate hard drive. Download the Maxtor installation software from their website, and then run the installation program. Once you got that, then power down the computer, and do your master slave set up again, and hopefully you will have better results

Where can I locate a Maxtor: 7245A 245MB 3.5"/SL IDE / AT

That is a *VERY* old disk-drive, not a printer.
Modern disk-drives from MAXTOR are, for example, 200GB or 300GB,
namely about 1000 times as much capacity as the 245MB disk-drive.

Try any local computer-store that sells "used" hardware.
Probably, any hard-drive *SMALLER* than 8.4GB can be substituted, and still be compatible with your computer's motherboard.

need help making two maxtor 200 GB work as one please help

Your solution is to install a PCI ATA RAID card and set the array as "striped". The system will then see the two 200GB HDFD's as one.
