Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Having repaired Many X-Box 360s.
The following points have been noted, And greatly reduced further rrod occurances.

Removal of the X-Clamps, and replacing with High Quality Thermal Grease Or Compound certainly helps.

The renewal Of Better Quality Heat-Pads, On The 4 x underside memory Chips, is also another Big Factor.

Also where the GPU heatsink sits, over the top of 2 x memory chips.
use thermal pads of 2mm thick, which greatly helps, Protects heat from the chips, when the GPU gets warm.

My Final And probably biggest Tip, Is to use a very fine sandpaper on The Underside Of The CPU And GPU heatsinks, before replacement. These Are Factory manufactured, And not as highly precise, or polished as they Should Be. I use a sanding Block, Some Fine 600-800 grit wet And Dry, to polish the fine lines out Of These, And polish to a mirror Finish With T-Cut. Or Car Rubbing Compound.

Completing all the Above, makes The 360 More Efficient Than It,s Original Production. Also the Addition Of A Talismoon Fan, moves More Warm Air Faster.

I have three flashing lights on my 360 and they aren't going away, this happened about a month ago and i made sure my power supply was hooked up nice and tight, and it went away, now it's back and it's not going away.

This is known as The RROD red-Ring-Of-Death.
Caused By Overheating, when the consoles played for hours, then allowed to cool down. dry solder joints occur, poor thermal paste used initially by microsoft, or the x-clamps. there are guides-tutorials and various kits et,c. available on e-bay and the likes to solve this. if you do not feel competant to attempt this. search the internet for rrod repairs, in your area. shops offer a reasonably priced service.

i have an error message e74 and one red ring

I suggest going to xbox.com/support/repair

If its not the AV cable then its a 90% chance its the scaler chips (ANA & HANA chips). In some rare cases its the GPU or CPU which means even Microsoft can't repair it. I have the same problem on one of my xbox 360s & its not covered by the RROD extended warranty. Do a little research & you'll helping people like me.

the 360 won't even turn on.

found a great repair guide that also has follow along videos. It was an easy fix, and my xbox has been working now for 3 months with this fix. I've also fixed several other XBox 360s using the same guide.

Now I'm using the guide to buy broken xbox 360s off of ebay and sell them back for big profits.
