Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

How to get rid of a line in you copys with a copier

On most new digital copy machines you will find two pieces of glass when you open up your top feeder. one of these pieces of glass is a small thin **** glass. take the copy you just made and place it on the large piece of glass the way it came out of the machine. if you compare the paper with **** glass you will most likely see something around that line on the **** glass.
if you don't see two pieces of glass you probably need a new drum unit.

We have a Canon Image Class MF5900. When we put items through the feeder on the top of the machine to feed through for either copying or scanning we get the copies/scans but they also have line through them. If we put the items under the cover for copies it does not have the line. Any suggestions?

Yes, this machine has what the call a scanning glass. Its the small thin glass where the paper goes down through the doc feed.its on this glass. A real close visual or take a clean piece of paper. Wad it up a and clean glass with that paper. It works. But if you don't have a line when you print or from the platin.(glass,main).its on that reader glass.

Black line going down page only when feeding paper through feeder

There should be a thin piece of glass to the left of the big glass that you put the original to be copied on. Clean the small glass very well and try copying again. If there is a spot on the glass, it will show up on the copy as a line.

vertical line down all copies coming from the top multipage feeder.

Please provide model number......however, if it's a "copier style" if you open the auto feeder, there should be a large contact glass and then a small "****" glass on the side that is used when using the auto feeder -clean this glass thoroughly (clean both while you're at it). If it's just a regular style fax machine, there will just be a small glass under the cover that needs to be cleaned.

Please let me know :)

Line on copy

You have a small dot on your scanner glass. Lift the lid and check the thin piece of glass on the right side of the machine. The smallest piece on the glass will cause that. Clean if with some windex and a cloth and the problem will go away.

top feeder of AL-1655CS

that is a dirty glass. The 1 inch or less wide glass on the left side of the machine has a very small spec on it.
You can clean it with a regular piece of paper and alcohol. Don't be afraid to clean it with some decent pressure.
The reason why you get the line in the feeder and not off the glass is that when you run a copy off the glass the lamp scans the immage, when you run through the feeeder the lamp parks under the glass and the movement of the document makes the print.
You may have some white out, or just some ink off an original on that piece of glass, but keep that clean.
Most people don't think that small piece of glass has a purpose, but it does. Sometimes the blot on the glass is so small you cant see it, and you need to remove that glass and hold it up with a piece of paper behind it to see the spot. It can be a very very small spot. But that is where your issue is.
