Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Trend Micro 16 Internet security blocking access to Internet after on-line update

Recently there have been problems with systems running Trend Micro 16 Internet Security blocking access to the Internet after an on line update.

SO far the simplest resolution I have found for this issue is to disable the Trend Micro Firewall, and enable this Windows Firewall. This restores access to the Internet in the normal mode and has no effect on the Antivirus Component of the software suite.

Trend has published the following fixes, but as yet I have not had any success using them.

The only other successful resolution I have found is to uninstall and reinstall the Antivirus suite

every time I start my computer Trend will update and then request a restart.Having restarted a few time it keeps doing this and also does therefore not update or scan anymore. I have Trend micro internet security Pro with subscibtion unto Dec 2011. Operating system is wIndows XP How can I get system back to normal? Already 1 month without functioning system. Thanks Ad

Personally, I would uninstall Trend - I had the same problem. I'd get my money back as well. I didn't bother to find out why because it was a hassle going through all kinds of do this and do that processes - the heck with that. If programmers did their job correctly, it should work. But unfortunately they are more concerned about job security than doing a good job.

With Trend Micro firewall on, I cannot access the Internet. This occurred very suddenly. What is happening?

I un-installed Trend Micro and re-installed it and then waited some time for it to update. I enabled the Trend Micro firewall and was able to connect to the Internet

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 loading but never loaded

I had a similar problem and this worked for me
with Trend Micros Internet Security.

You will have to uninstall the program first then reinstall it, otherwise it
will hang and cause problems with your computer.

In order to uninstall it do these steps.
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > System Configuation.
Makes sure you select Selective Startup, and that Load Startup Items is unchecked.
Click OK, and you should be prompted to reboot.

After you reboot and the system is loaded your Virus Software icon will NOT
be in the taskbar trying to load.

Now go into control panel > Programs and Features.
Find the virus program, hightlight and select the uninstall option.
After its done doing that go back into the Control Panel >
Administrative Tools > System Configuration. Select Normal Startup
and hit the OK button.

Reboot again when you see the button prompt.
Now, after the system comes up, reinstall your virus software,

You should be good to go from there.
The process is for Vista, but if your running Windows XP it is very similar.
