Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

The washing machine will not spin or drain?

First of all check if the motor is running or not when you turn on the motor. If the motor is not turning on then this problem is due to fault in the motor. But if the motor is getting on and running properly then most probably this problem relates to stuck up or cracked drain pump pulley. It needs to be checked but if the pump pulley is functioning properly then check the drain pump belt. If the drain pump belt is worn out or loose or cracked/broken then it needs to replace. But if the motor is not running then before replacing the motor check the lid switch. There is a lid switch in the washer. The washing machine will not start spinning till the lid is closed. In some cases it has been seen that lid is closed still the washer does not spin. in this cases the lid switch has to be checked. if the lid switch is faulty then the closed lid will not be detected by the washing machine, and it will not start spin cycle. And this faulty lid switch can stop the motor from running.
The switch is located near the door frame in the washing machine.
This will help.thanks.

Hi,

Just coming from a basic perspective, please test the powe outlets that your dryer uses with other devices so that you ensure that the power source isn't at fault. Thank you.

wont spin

Possible fault with the drive system if the motor is working without any transmission. You need to check for slippages in the drive. It can also be due to bearing problems or the main shaft being stuck in the drum.

when i turn ignition it will not turn over unitil several tries

Possible that the starter motor solenoid is not switching or the starter motor is not engaging due to poor brush contact.
You must also make sure that the ignition switch is working correct by contacting. so a voltage check when the swittch is turned will confirm the fault.
