Tip & How-To about Video Game Consoles & Games
This tip is for people who have already disassembled their Play Station3 console and tried to replace the laser in the Blu ray optical drive.
If you replace the laser and then reassemble the Blu ray optical drive and the drive will no longer accept discs (the gears grind, or you can not push the disc in) follow these steps to resolve.
(Note: if you can not push the disc in because something is "blocking" the drive, refer to this tip: http://www.fixya.com/support/r4140687-bluray_drive_ps3_not_accept_discs_after )
Remove the metal casing of the Blu ray optical if you have not already done so. This requires removing the three black screws and the two silver screws on the bottom of the Blu ray optical drive.
With the metal casing removed, locate the 5 black screws on the top of the Blu ray optical drive to remove. There are two on either side and one at the back in the middle.
"Fold" the top over. There is no reason to remove it completely.
On either side of the drive inside, there are two long black pieces with "teeth" to interact with the gears.
You need to forcefully push the bar on the left side of the drive all the way back.
The white Gears in the front of the PS3 should be able to move freely (push on them and they should move back and forth to allow a disc to go in)
Make sure the black bar has one or two of the "teeth" in line with the black gear near the front of it. Verify that the white pieces will still move freely.
Turn on your PS3 and wait for it to power up.
Reassemble the Blu ray drive. You should test your Blu ray drive first before reassembling the whole PS3.
