Tip & How-To about Toshiba (4CH-VOUT) Sound Card
About two weeks after I got my new laptop, the sound card started working sporadically. I am sure it is a driver problem because when it works, it works, perfectly. There seems to be some interactionb with USB devices because if I disconnect my optical mouse and external hard drive, Vista will load my Realtek drivers more consistantly but still not flawlessly. There slso seems to be something to do with their load sequence in Startup. This sucker also has a Realtek LAN driver installed and that may be causing part of the problem. The only indication of a problem that Vista reports to me is a flash card problem taht Adobe is working on. No event is listed in Event Manager for the Realteq problem. The only thing I can get from Device Manager is the sound card driver will not load. I am running driver version 188.8.131.5274 from Toshiba. Toshiba Tech Support was no help at all - nothing but a bunch of idiots. I have been in computers since TRSDOS machines - mid 70's. I have also owned 4 Toshiba laptops - all of which are still working. I am running V ista 6001 on this machine with the latest BIOS upgrade friom Toshiba on it. It is one month old, today.
