Here is a useful tip in identifying a frequently reported problem on some model ranges and wall ovens equipped with an Electronic Range Control (ERC) or Electronic Oven Control (EOC).An “error” code display of “Sabb" or “Sab” will be displayed and the range or oven will not function. This is called “Sabbath Mode" and it may be costing you unnecessary charges in service call fees. This is NOT a problem, but actually a feature provided by some manufacturers to enable customers of certain religious faiths to honor the Sabbath. The range will not function at all during this period and cannot be reset by unplugging the unit or turning it off. In your owner/operator's manual there should be a section that refers to "Sabbath Mode" under the control panel features and operation. This "problem" is a minor operator issue and is not a malfunction of the appliance. This is commonly reported by customers to service companies to have corrected, but the repair is unnecessary, and usually NOT covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. The reason: It is a designed feature of the appliance and considered “operator error” in most cases. What this means is you may be paying someone big money to push a couple of buttons and “fix” something that could have taken you minutes to correct yourself.Sabbath Mode can inadvertently be activated by pressing the wrong sequence of control panel buttons, kids playing with the control panel and also after a power outage. The “problem” can be cleared, but you will have to find the proper reference in your owner operator manual.Manufacturers provide different procedures for activating and deactivating the mode, so instructions may differ.I hope this helps avoid the need for a service calls in the future and saves you money.
With the Crosley Oven the code that looks like 5ab is really Sab for sabbath mode. When in this mode the range will work but the oven will not. to turn it off press the "clock" button for 3 seconds then press the button again... it will reset. Bet the repair guys love this one... they can have a cup of coffee and get paid for it!
Mark.
We moved into a new place and boy the appliances are a pain. Knobbs breaking on stove top, oven turning off when going from broil to bake, fridge not quiet working right, etc...
Anyways, today we go SAb mode on the Jenn-Air Model JJW8130DDB. Manual says 'sabbith" mode as indicated above. Looked on net for info and couldn't find anything. No help. End up finding that to turn it off SAb mode you need to press the "CLOCK BUTTON" for 3 seconds.
Now if we can only figure out why it keeps turning off when going from broil to bake. Or when doing a lot of cooking it "gives up" after a full day of cooking!!!!!
