Tip & How-To about Washing Machines
I thought my washing machine (a top load, stackable Maytag), was going to rock and roll right out of my laundry room and move in with the neighbors!
It was not quite that bad....yet...but it was rattling across the room. I tried shifting and shuffling my loads and downsizing them.
However, just like the dryer vent must be cleaned out, and a fabric softener is great for this job....our washing machines have this need, too.
After loads of trafficking diapers, childrens' play clothes, tennies, etc., my machine was giving me my money's worth....but the bumping and grinding had to stop!
I pulled out the vent, located in mid-center of the top-load washer, unscrewed pieces that were removable (don't force anything!), and ran them through hot water and bleach. Some of the 'gunk' had to be removed with paper towels. Afterward, I re-inserted the catch-all pieces, and the washer is now washing, on a balanced, and quieter cycle. Spin drying in my washer has never been so pleasantly silent.
